Overview

SKDK, an award-winning public affairs and political advertising agency, is looking for a driven, self-starter to join its public affairs team as a Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff in Washington, DC. This role will work with a wide range of clients, including corporate, association, nonprofit and issue advocacy, and support the work of the firm to develop and executive strategy that is creative, strong, and will help meet clients' goals. The Chief of Staff drives talent strategy and staff operations within the DC Public Affairs team. This position ensures seamless client assignment management, promotes professional development, and provides strategic counsel to organizational leadership.  


Responsibilities

A Senior Vice President’s job responsibilities include:  

  • Fully managing clients and client teams, including independently delivering strategic advice and expanding relationships with existing clients.  
  • Serving as chief strategist for all client teams. 
  • Maintaining and nurturing high-level press and third-party external contacts.  
  • Providing fiscal stewardship of firm resources and client budgets.  
  • Providing mentoring and leadership to SKDK staff.  

  

The Chief of Staff’s job responsibilities include:  

  • Help identify and recruit diverse talent to join the firm.  
  • Oversee the onboarding of new staff.  
  • Strategically assign staff to client teams to deliver appropriate expertise and service to all clients.  
  • Manage staff development programs, including mentoring, staff support and performance development opportunities.  
  • Overseeing the twice-yearly review process with HR and Managing Directors. 
  • Liaise with firm leadership about staffing, capacity, and any other issues that may arise.  

Qualifications

A successful candidate will have:  

  • 12-15+ years of relevant experience in writing, research, and media-intensive positions such as political campaigns, in media, government, agency, or similar organizations.  
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive workplace, working collaboratively and with consideration for others.  
  • Deep experience placing national print and broadcast stories.  
  • Strong writing and research skills with thorough knowledge of AP Style.  
  • A working knowledge of social media strategies for communications campaigns.  
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.  
  • The ability to effectively manage multiple projects and handle competing deadlines. 

 

Benefits

 

SKDK is committed to pay equity. SKDK believes the target range of base compensation in this role is $165,000-$185,000. In addition to base salary, SKDK considers other key components as part of total compensation, including but not limited to an annual discretionary bonus, commission on new business, and a comprehensive benefits package. Actual base compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, such as skillset, level of experience, and location.
