Causa Justa :: Just Cause (CJJC) is seeking a dedicated housing counselor for our SF tenant rights hotline! 

Born through mergers between Black and Latinx organizations in San Francisco and Oakland, Causa Justa :: Just Cause (CJJC) builds grassroots power and leadership to create strong, equitable communities. In 2020, CJJC led its Oakland allies in achieving one of the strongest eviction moratoriums in the country. Earlier in its history, CJJC provided leadership on the campaigns that resulted in due process for immigrants in San Francisco and Oakland. Through rights-based services, policy campaigns, civic engagement, and direct action, we improve conditions for working-class communities and contribute to building the larger multi-racial, multi-generational movement needed for fundamental change.


Primary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Counsel tenants about their rights
  • Input new tenant/client entries into our database
  • Provide tenant information and resources on our SF Tenant Hotline
  • Including: client drop ins at our physical office. 
  • Support tenants with case follow-up as needed 
  • Maintain database documentation of counseling case documentation and client information
  • Attend external trainings/meetings to better support tenants
  • Recruit new members through outreach activities
  • Participate in the organization's fundraising and civic engagement campaigns.
  • Write reports
  • Create tenant counseling reports based on follow-up calls to clients and assisting in drafting case updates/summaries. 
  • Facilitate "Know Your Rights" Workshops
  • Co-facilitate tenant and immigrant rights workshops.
  • Support in updating content/curriculum as needed.
  • Recruit community members to attend “Know Your Rights” trainings 

Other duties include:

  • Recruits new members through outreach such as phonebanking and canvassing
  • Conducts one-on-one calls with CJJC members
  • Maintain member database tracking, keeping member list updated. 
  • Provide support as needed to organization wide drives such as annual fundraising appeals and civic engagement

Requirements 

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working directly with low-income and diverse people. 
  • Experience working in non-profit or public sector settings.
  • Proficiency in google suites or microsoft office.
  • Minimum 1 year of data entry/database experience.
  • Commit at least 2 years to work at CJJC.
  • Know how to work as a team player and maintain good communication with the team.
