About the Role:
We are seeking a conscientious highly organized, and detail-oriented Special Assistant for Policy and Program to help advance the external facing work of the organization. The Special Assistant will conduct research in support of program strategy, project development, and organizational communication needs, at times requiring rapid response on tight deadlines. The position will also support UHF’s emerging new line of Medicaid work seeks to achieve this vision by bridging and advancing quality and equity and supporting the delivery of health-related social needs (HRSN) screening and services. This position will collaborate with individuals across the policy and program division, and other divisions across the organization to ensure efficient and effective information sharing and business process completion. The Special Assistant must work collaboratively, efficiently, and effectively within a fast-paced environment and must be a proactive, resourceful, and dependable team player. Excellent communication and project management skills, and discretion handling confidential information are required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and Analysis: Conduct assigned research, analyzing and summarizing data and published literature in support of existing and emerging projects, and individual and organization wide external communications including presentations, speaking engagements and media responses.
- Project Management and Support: Support policy and program division-wide project management through information organization and dissemination in Microsoft 365 SharePoint and Asana, coordinating with departmental leaders and staff. Participates in internal and external meetings and conferences to support individual projects, cross-departmental information sharing, and strategic initiative development. Specifically support strategy development on future planning for Medicaid HRSN related work.
- Communication: Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and publications to disseminate findings and share lessons learned with internal and external audiences. Assists with development, maintenance and management of policy and program division website content, social media, and other online communication as well as maintenance of policy and program data in the organization-wide contact management system.
- Convening Support: Provide technical, administrative, and agenda planning and development assistance for meetings, tele/video-conferences, and webinars – both internal and external – including larger conferences and invitational convenings.
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues across different work streams within UHF, providing research and administrative support to projects as assigned, and ensuring alignment and synergy in project activities.
- Knowledge Management: Organize and maintain project-related documents, research materials, and stakeholder communications to ensure efficient access and knowledge sharing within the team.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of one year of relevant research experience.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and Internet research skills with a proactive approach to solving problems and making decisions.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise summaries and notes, and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail including the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly, and to manage time and meet deadlines.
- Team Player: Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary teams on projects across departments.
- Convening: Demonstrated experience with program convening and external partnership development.
- Health Expertise: General understanding of the health care delivery system and health policy landscape.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual meeting platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Master’s degree in public health, healthcare administration, public policy, or a related field (equivalent professional or lived experience may be considered in place of a degree).

Salary Range: $75,000 – $90,000
Compensation and Benefits: United Hospital Fund offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, combined with generous benefits, including health, dental, voluntary vision, life, and disability insurance; a 403b retirement plan; paid time off; a commuting subsidy; collegial environment.
