Position Overview: Communications & Community Engagement Intern

The Communications & Community Engagement Intern will support public outreach, media strategy, and community engagement efforts advancing End Hunger Connecticut!’s food justice and anti-hunger work. The intern will help translate policy into accessible messaging, support digital storytelling efforts, and assist in mobilizing partners and families across Connecticut. This role is ideal for students interested in public policy, public health, nonprofit leadership, community organizing, or communications. 

  

The Communications & Community Engagement Intern can work flexibly between 10–20 hours per week, in-office in Hartford or remotely, receiving direction and guidance from the EHC! team. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft press releases, media advisories, and outreach materials 
  • Support social media content creation and campaign messaging 
  • Assist with coordinating community forums, listening sessions, and press events 
  • Engage partners and stakeholders to support advocacy campaigns 
  • Track engagement metrics and participation data 
  • Help translate policy priorities into accessible public messaging 

 

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a current undergraduate or graduate program with good academic standing 
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to translate policy issues into clear, compelling public messaging 
  • Interest in food justice, public policy, media, or community engagement 
  • Comfortable engaging with diverse communities and working collaboratively 
  • Organized and able to manage multiple projects with guidance

Position Overview: Policy & Research Intern

The Policy & Research Intern will support legislative strategy and policy development efforts advancing universal free school meals, CT Fresh Match and SNAP policy work. This role is ideal for students interested in public policy, political science, public health, or law. 

 

The Policy & Research Intern can work flexibly between 10-20 hours per week, in-office in Hartford or remotely, receiving direction and guidance from the EHC! team. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research state and national school meal policies 
  • Track legislation and committee activity 
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, fact sheets, and testimony 
  • Support meeting preparation with legislators and stakeholders 
  • Analyze economic and educational impact data 

 

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a current undergraduate or graduate program with good academic standing 
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills 
  • Ability to synthesize complex policy information into clear, accessible summaries 
  • Interest in food justice, education policy, public health, or economic equity 
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage deadlines independently
