Role Description The Sr. Director, Membership & Giving Circles is a full-time, hybrid role based in Chicago, IL, with flexibility for some work from home. This role oversees the strategy, growth, and retention of membership and mid-level donor programs, including Giving Circles, ensuring alignment with Shedd Aquarium’s mission and revenue goals. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading membership sales and stewardship initiatives, developing and implementing campaigns, setting and monitoring performance metrics, and optimizing member and donor journeys. The Sr. Director manages and mentors a team, collaborates closely with development, marketing, guest services, and operations teams, and ensures a high standard of customer service across all member touchpoints. The role also involves analyzing data, preparing reports, forecasting revenue, and identifying new business development opportunities to deepen engagement and increase philanthropic support.


Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in sales and sales operations, including setting targets, managing pipelines, and driving revenue growth in membership or donor programs.
  • Experience in customer service and relationship management, with a strong commitment to delivering responsive, inclusive, and high-quality experiences for members and donors.
  • Proven team management and leadership skills, including coaching, performance management, and fostering collaboration across diverse teams.
  • Background in business development, with the ability to identify, evaluate, and cultivate new opportunities to expand membership and mid-level giving audiences.
  • Strong strategic planning, analytical, and reporting skills, including proficiency with CRM systems and data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to senior leadership and represent the organization with external partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, marketing, or a related field; advanced degree or equivalent experience in fundraising or membership management is beneficial.
  • Experience in nonprofit, cultural institutions, or mission-driven organizations, particularly in membership or philanthropy programs, is highly preferred.
