Job Description
Chamber of Progress is a trade association devoted to technology’s progressive future. We are seeking a Staff Assistant to support our CEO and team, manage our administrative operations, serve as a utility player across the team, and improve the efficiency of our organization by adopting new AI tools. This is an entry-level role for a smart early-career person who wants to prove themselves in operations and climb from there. You'll work alongside our policy, communications and government relations teams and learn how an advocacy organization runs from the inside.
Responsibilities
- Support the CEO. Manage the CEO's schedule, travel and meeting preparation. Anticipate conflicts, protect focus time, and handle meeting requests proactively. Process the CEO's expenses and categorize transactions. Assist the CEO with board meetings and board management, including scheduling and follow-up with board members.
- Own events and offsites. Run company happy hours, staff farewells, external happy hours, plus three team offsites a year. You'll handle everything from venue research, hotels, conference rooms and catering to invitations, activities and day-of execution.
- Run project operations. Keep agendas, notes and action items for weekly and biweekly project and partner syncs, maintain internal tracking systems, and serve as backup to our Director of Company Partnerships
- Recruiting and HR. Manage the interview process and outbound recruiting for open roles. Onboard and offboard team members, including equipment, access and laptop return. Administer benefits, leave and PTO policies and performance reviews, and maintain the employee handbook.
- IT, vendors and subscriptions. Administer our shared software. Deploy and track company equipment. Manage vendor and subscription renewals and contracts.
- Communications and metrics support. Produce daily press clips, categorize and measure tweets, make website updates, and help prepare presentations.
- Improve how we operate. Notice what isn't working and fix it without waiting for an assignment. Build AI tools and automations that make the organization run more efficiently.
- Support the team. Help team members with projects, and own and drive team culture and connection, especially between our DC-based and remote staff.
Requirements
- 0-2 years of post-college work experience
- Prior experience in a professional administrative, operational or sales role
- Experience with Google Workspace and the ability to pick up new enterprise software quickly
- Insanely well organized, with obsessive attention to detail: complete notes, checked logistics, and a plan for what could go wrong
- An owner mindset: you notice what isn't working and fix it without waiting for an assignment
- A utility player who is glad to take on unfamiliar work, from press clips to event logistics
- Curiosity about using AI and automation to streamline operations
- A bias toward action
- Highly trustworthy: you'll handle confidential personnel, financial and board matters
- Located in the Washington, DC area and willing to work from our downtown Washington office at least every Thursday
Compensation & Benefits
- $55,000 - $75,000 annual salary, based on experience
- 401(k) retirement program with 4% employer matching
- Employer subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 15 days of vacation in the first year of employment
- 8 paid holidays per year plus the week between Christmas Eve and New Years Day
- 12 weeks of paid parental leave

We’re not just another business group. Everyone knows that a local “chamber of commerce” promotes business and free markets. We’re an industry group, but instead of focusing on commerce, Chamber of Progress is promoting a progressive high-tech society, economy, workforce, and consumer climate.
Chamber of Progress supports public policies promoting:
- Economic progress, including combatting income inequality; promoting a bigger, modern social safety net; encouraging progressive taxation; and supporting reliable, win-win online marketplaces;
- Social progress, including promoting inclusive democracy; supporting bold action against climate change; promoting digital opportunity for all; and advocating for healthy and equitable online communities.
- Consumer progress, including promoting the principle that tech should always serve consumers’ interests; “building back better” by investing in communities and regulated innovation; increasing access to goods and information; and balancing consumer and worker concerns.
