Job Description
Senator Merkley seeks a Press and Staff Assistant for his Washington, DC office. Qualified applicants should have prior press experience, be motivated self-starters, detail oriented, highly organized, able to multitask, have exceptional interpersonal skills, and eager to join a mission-oriented team that thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Primary responsibilities include: drafting quotes, press releases, event statements, and social media posts; compiling daily and weekly press clips; and providing operational support to the communications team as assigned. The Press and Staff Assistant also helps manage the physical and virtual front office, including answering and tallying telephone calls, processing voicemails, and flag requests. Candidates must demonstrate strong ability to write for multiple audiences, excellent “people skills” and a strong commitment to providing outstanding constituent service. Candidates should also show a commitment to the Team’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion mission. The ideal candidate should: be able to think on their feet and be a problem solver; show keen attention to detail and an ability to multi-task; demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; and maintain a positive demeanor and demonstrate resilience in a busy environment.
