Job Description
We offer thousands of free programs every day for people from all walks of life—immigrants learning a new language, aspiring entrepreneurs launching their dreams, children discovering the world, people of all ages exploring arts and culture. And we give patrons millions of opportunities to enjoy one of life’s greatest satisfactions: the discovery of a good book.
Now’s your chance to join the best team in Brooklyn!
Brooklyn Public Library has an exciting PAID internship opportunity for currently enrolled SUNY students. Interns will gain hands-on experience in a large, dynamic organization, receive mentorship from seasoned professionals, and participate in exciting weekly enrichment opportunities with their peers.
Many people assume that everyone who works in a library is a librarian. In reality, libraries employ a wide range of skilled professionals and are organized into many of the same departments as other businesses. As an intern, you will be placed in one of the following business departments:
Information Technology - interns will support the WebApps and Cybersecurity/Computer Networking teams with initiatives such as improving IT file and folder organization systems, assisting with the coordination of IT efforts across various renovation projects, and supporting the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the Library’s public‑facing and internal web applications
Finance - interns will support the procurement team with projects like contract negotiation, purchase orders, financial reporting, and more
Capital Planning & Facilities Management - interns will support the department with projects like fire safety audits
Public Service/Executive Directors Office - interns will support executive leadership with various special projects
Strategy - interns will support Team Data in consolidating and managing reference data about BPL’s branches
Please specify the department in which you are most interested in working in your application. Interviews will take place between May 26 and May 29, 2026, and will be conducted virtually.
Brooklyn Public Library is one of the nation’s largest library systems and among New York City’s most democratic institutions. Providing innovative library service for over 125 years, we support personal advancement, foster civic literacy, and strengthen the fabric of community among the more than 2.6 million individuals who call Brooklyn home. We are a global leader in the fight for the freedom to read through our Books Unbanned initiative, offering teens across the US access to the Library’s online catalog.
We provide nearly 65,000 free programs a year with writers, thinkers, artists, and educators—from around the corner and around the world. And we give patrons millions of opportunities to enjoy one of life’s greatest satisfactions: the joy of a good book.
