The British American Business Council of Greater Philadelphia (BABCPHL) is Greater Philadelphia’s premier hub for British-American business, serving as a bridge between business, government, and academia to advance trade, investment, and commercial collaboration between the United States and the United Kingdom.
Through executive networking, trade delegations, policy forums, strategic partnerships, and international business programming, BABCPHL convenes leaders and organizations from across the Greater Philadelphia region and the United Kingdom to strengthen transatlantic economic ties and create opportunities for collaboration. BABCPHL also provides members with timely insights, thought leadership, and resources designed to help them stay informed on the developments shaping the transatlantic business environment. BABCPHL is part of the BritishAmerican Business Network and an affiliate of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.
We are seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized individual to join BABCPHL in a newly established Trade & Policy Intern role.
Anticipated Duration: September 3, 2026 – December 4, 2026
Hourly Commitment: Approximately 10-15 hours per week, hybrid
Compensation: Unpaid internship. Academic credit is strongly encouraged and BABCPHL will work with the student’s college or university to fulfill applicable requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Research and produce a biweekly Trade & Policy Update for BABCPHL members, highlighting key developments affecting U.S.-UK trade, investment, and the transatlantic business environment
· Monitor relevant developments from the U.S. and UK governments, Pennsylvania and regional government, and other trade and economic institutions
· Identify emerging policies, regulatory changes, legislation, economic developments, and other issues using various research methods
· Translate complex policy developments into concise, accessible, business-focused summaries explaining what happened, why it matters, and what to watch next
· Research topics related to international trade, economic development, investment, and U.S.-UK commercial relations
· Assist with research and briefing materials for BABCPHL policy programs, trade delegations, meetings, and visiting government or business leaders
· Attend select BABCPHL programs and events and engage with senior leaders from business, government, academia, and the diplomatic community
Qualifications:
· Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to identify credible sources and synthesize complex information
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
· Demonstrated ability to communicate research findings clearly and concisely for a professional audience
· Ability to manage multiple assignments, work independently, and meet recurring deadlines
· Strong interest in current affairs and the intersection of government policy and international business
· Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the Senior Manager and BABCPHL staff
· Rising sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing an undergraduate degree in international relations, political science, public policy, economics, international business, or a related field
Work Conditions/Physical Demands:
The Chamber/BABCPHL employees work in a typical office environment. On a standard workday, most time is spent sitting at a desk, using the computer, and speaking on the phone. However, at times, this role will be required to attend BABCPHL events or related outside meetings/events on behalf of the BABCPHL. These meetings/events may take place outside of regular business hours and outside of Center City Philadelphia.
