Vice President, Marketing & Communications


Location: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid)

Schedule: 3 days in office / 2 days remote

Reports to: CEO / COO

Employment Type: Full-time | Exempt


About the Role

The National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) is seeking a senior, strategic Vice President of Marketing & Communications to lead its brand, marketing, communications, public relations, and events marketing strategy.


This executive leader will serve as NMSDC’s chief brand steward, responsible for elevating visibility, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and advancing the organization’s mission through integrated marketing, compelling storytelling, and high-impact communications.


The Vice President will partner closely with the CEO and COO and serve as a trusted advisor on brand reputation, messaging, and external engagement.


What You’ll Do


Leadership & Strategy

  • Set the vision and strategic direction for marketing and communications
  • Advise executive leadership on brand positioning, messaging, and communications risk
  • Lead high-performing teams with a focus on accountability and results


Brand & Marketing

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies aligned with organizational goals
  • Serve as brand steward, ensuring consistency across messaging, voice, and visual identity
  • Leverage research, insights, and analytics to inform strategy and improve impact


Events Marketing

  • Lead marketing strategy for major conferences, events, and tradeshows
  • Drive audience growth, engagement, sponsorship value, and ROI
  • Explore innovative delivery models (in-person, virtual, hybrid, destination)


Communications & Public Relations

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and PR strategy
  • Oversee media relations, proactive pitching, and issue response
  • Serve as a spokesperson and support executive messaging and thought leadership
  • Build relationships with media, influencers, and key external audiences


Marketing Operations

  • Oversee digital and print communications, including website content and publications
  • Manage vendors, agencies, and consultants
  • Implement performance measurement systems and continuously optimize results


Team Development

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing marketing and communications team
  • Foster a collaborative, learning-oriented, and results-driven culture



What We’re Looking For


  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 10+ years of progressive marketing and communications leadership experience
  • Proven success leading integrated marketing campaigns and large-scale events
  • Strong media relations experience with a track record of high-impact placements
  • Deep expertise in digital marketing, analytics, and data-driven decision-making
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Executive presence with the ability to engage diverse internal and external audiences
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and modern marketing tools (CMS, email platforms, analytics, event systems, Adobe Creative Suite)



Work Location & Travel


This role is hybrid, with an expectation of three (3) days per week in the Washington, D.C. office and two (2) days remote. Occasional travel and additional in-office days may be required for events or executive priorities.
