KIWA is a multiracial worker center rooted in the Korean democracy movement and broader racial and economic justice movements in the United States. Founded in 1992, KIWA organizes primarily Latino and Korean workers in the retail and restaurant industries. Our mission is to build the power of immigrant workers and residents to transform workplaces and communities in Koreatown and beyond.

Worker organizing is central to KIWA’s theory of change. Our work includes workplace organizing, leadership development, policy innovation, civic engagement, affordable housing development, housing justice advocacy, direct services, and cultural change.

Position Overview

KIWA is hiring part time Voter Engagement Canvassers to support a Spring 2026 voter engagement and base building program in Koreatown and adjacent neighborhoods. This position is part of a ROAR organizing model (Recruit, Organize, Activate, and Re engage). Canvassers will work as part of a team to engage new voters and existing supporters through in depth, relationship based conversations. The goal is to grow KIWA’s voter base, identify community leaders, and connect residents to ongoing civic engagement and organizing efforts.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Contact voters through door to door canvassing and phone banking
  • Engage voters in in depth conversations to understand their concerns, priorities, and community needs
  • Encourage participation in campaigns, local actions, events, and civic activities
  • Re contact voters to confirm participation and deepen engagement
  • Meet daily and weekly benchmarks for voter contacts and supporter identification
  • Accurately enter data and submit required daily reports

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Korean or English and Spanish
  • Availability to attend mandatory training from February 10 to 12, 2026
  • Ability to follow scripts and provide accurate nonpartisan information
  • Strong commitment to social, racial, and economic justice
  • Ability to build rapport with diverse community members and communicate clearly and enthusiastically
  • Strong listening skills and ability to guide conversations toward local action
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, stand or walk for extended periods, and lift up to 10 pounds

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience in canvassing or community, labor, or campus organizing
  • Demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation preferred

Additional information

Start Date: February 2, 2026 (earlier start possible) - April 9, 2025

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Pay Rate: $26 per hour

Employment Type: Temporary, non-exempt, part time

Reports to: Director of Partnerships
