Position Summary

The Intern, Government Affairs will work with the Legal, Government Affairs & Policy team, members and other CHPA staff to complete projects over a 12-week period from January-April.

Essential Functions

  • During the course of the internship, the intern will assist with legislative tracking and committee preparation, organize state bills and weekly legislative newsletters, assist in managing project timelines, coordinate bill hearings and data entry, and track state advocacy efforts leading to a final advocacy impact project. Proposed tasks listed below:
  • Using legislative tracking database, assist in preparation of committee agenda for Dietary Supplements, Medical Device, and State & Local Government Affairs Committees.
  • Assist with maintenance of state legislative tracking database, organizing state bills by priority, issue, and engagement.
  • Organize weekly newsletter sends, delivering pertinent legislative information to thousands of members on a weekly basis.
  • Utilize project management software to optimize issue timelines - assist in prioritizing tasks by due date for state staff.
  • Copy over relevant bill hearings to state staff calendar.
  • Data entry (using legislative figures) to input raw data from database.

Required Education and Experience

- Must be authorized to work in the United States.

- Must be enrolled full-time or part-time in a degree granting program with a concentration in Government Affairs, Political Science, Public Policy, Public Affairs, Legal Studies, or similar concentration.

- Must be a junior or senior in a bachelor’s program or in a master’s degree program.
