Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Legislative and Records Assistant to join our Policy and Projects Office. This is a wage position, not to exceed 1500 working hours. This position is also not entitled to state benefits.

The Legislative and Records Assistant will be responsible for researching and analyzing information and trends to support the development of legislative proposals. The incumbent in this position will also provide support with tracking legislative bills during the General Assembly. This incumbent will also be required to create and maintain electronic and physical records. The Legislative and Records Assistant will be required to work with the necessary parties to bring awareness of any FOIA requests received and assist the VDEM FOIA Officer in fulfilling the request. The incumbent in this position will have the opportunity to make contributions that will benefit the agency by identify, developing, and executing process administrative improvements for the Policy and Projects Office.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Considerable experience with policy analysis, research, data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability of strong writing, editing, and oral communication skills, including standard formatting and protocol for professional correspondence.
  • Possess the ability to identify and implement process efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals at various levels.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software programs.
  • Experience with managing projects and records management.

Additional Considerations

  • Knowledge of Virginia FOIA laws
  • Knowledge of legislative process and state government structure
