Government Affairs Advocacy Position

This position strategically advocates for a medium sized bay-area non-profit organization with interests in Northern Nevada to key government agencies and organizations to help maximize the efforts of overall government relations strategies. This role is responsible for overseeing various advocacy projects, engaging elected officials, department personnel, and agencies in DC and Nevada, coordinating with the Communications Department and media outlets as necessary, collecting and analyzing data, assisting the Director of Government Affairs with strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create and implement strategic advocacy including grass roots and grass tops campaigns.

Establish strategic alliances including NGOs, agencies, local communities, and national delegations.

Assist with the representation of the organization in political communications, meetings, and negotiations in Nevada and Washington, D.C.

Assist with establishing and maintaining strategic political relationships with federal, state, and local government officials, law enforcement agencies, and civic leaders.

Work with the Communications Department to create and disseminate strategic messaging for the media and public.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Law Degree, Master’s Degree in Public Policy or equivalent experience

Experience with issue campaign advocacy, including government affairs, regulatory affairs, strategic communications, grassroots and grasstops advocacy

At least 5 years experience in public relations, public policy, government relations or law

Demonstrated success managing high-level relationships and projects involving coordination across departments and agencies, and with multiple stakeholders;

Demonstrated capacity for strategic planning;

Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including public speaking experience;

Friendly, personable demeanor conducive to effectively presenting information and responding to questions from government officials, local community members, reporters, staff, vendors, volunteers, participants, and the general public;

Demonstrated success in working on teams to manage and resolve complex policy challenges.

Ability to maintain personal integrity and uphold high standards of professionalism and confidentiality;

Ability to think on their feet, problem solve, and remain calm under pressure;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Public Policy experience in DOI, NEPA and FLPMA issues.

Washington DC based policy experience.

Existing list of relevant government contact relationships.
