Policy Advisor

We have an immediate opening for a full-time Policy Advisor to support the Firm’s Government Relations & Regulation Group, working with other lobbyists to represent several of the Firm’s clients before the California Legislature, the Governor and various state/local agencies. Our diverse client base includes both public and private sector clients in the transportation, water, education, clean tech, energy and health, just to name a few. This is a great opportunity to work closely with a number of dynamic professionals in a respected national firm. The Policy Advisor reports to the chair of the Firm’s Government Relations & Regulation Group and the position is located in the Sacramento office.

The salary range for the position of Policy Advisor at Nossaman is $80,000 to $110,000 annually. The successful candidate’s salary for this position is reasonably expected to be set within this range. However, actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitoring legislation, legislative hearings and Executive Branch policy initiatives.
• Coordinate advocacy days on behalf of clients.
• Attend and participate in legislative hearings on behalf of clients.
• Research and track funding opportunities at various state agencies.
• Generate position papers, letters and strategy memos.
• Keep clients informed about new developments.
• Provide modest administrative support to the group.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience, is required.
• Prior legislative experience is required.
• Detail-oriented, with strong analytical and writing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform at high levels in a fast paced ever changing work environment.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal), professional demeanor and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
