Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Director of External Affairs (SEA) manages governmental relations, strategic partnerships, and communications to promote Apicha CHC as an innovative and in-demand federally qualified community health center that provides culturally competent and linguistically accessible care. The SEA is responsible for developing and overseeing effective community engagement, communications, and marketing campaigns to grow Apicha CHC’s patient base. To accommodate an existing and expanding patient base, the SEA is also expected to steward advocacy efforts that drive partnerships and resources to Apicha CHC. As an executive management team member, the SEA will play an active role in the implementation of Apicha CHC’s strategic plan.

Education and Experience
- Advanced degree in related field of public health, policy, communication required.
- Minimum of 10 years of health policy, legislative, communications, media relations, and/or management experience required
- Experience with and understanding of the public policy, budget, and legislative processes and inter-agency procedures at the municipal, state, and federal levels required
- Experience managing relationships and advising on strategy, project planning, and stakeholder engagement required
- Experience supervising staff or leading a team
- Ability to work well in multi-disciplinary and people from diverse background environment required.

- Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and oversee external relations plans that support an FQHC’s public health, policy, and programmatic efforts
- Leader with “executive presence” who is able to establish credibility within the organization and with partner agencies, elected officials, and other stakeholders
- Persuasive communicator who is able to motivate others outside of their domain to meet organizational goals and drive operational efficiency across departments
- Professional who demonstrates tact in all interactions with external and internal partners as a representative of Apicha CHC
• Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to distill complex concepts into clear and compelling messages for diverse audiences • Ability to organize, prioritize, follow up, and ensure execution of multiple priorities
- Ability to work effectively in both collaborative and individual settings
- Excellent MS Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, for both internal and external communication
Travel
- Ability and willingness to travel; some travel within and outside of New York State will be required.
Work Hours
Ability to work on weekend and outside of traditional work hours required.
