Job Description

Internal Communications Associate

Uber - San Francisco, CA 94103

About Uber

We’re changing the way people think about transportation. Not that long ago we were just an app to request premium black cars in a few metropolitan areas. Now we’re a part of the logistical fabric of more than 600 cities around the world. Whether it’s a ride, a sandwich, or a package, we use technology to give people what they want, when they want it.

For the people who drive with Uber, our app represents a flexible new way to earn money. For cities, we help strengthen local economies, improve access to transportation, and make streets safer.

And that’s just what we’re doing today. We’re thinking about the future, too. With teams working on autonomous trucking and self-driving cars, we’re in for the long haul. We’re reimagining how people and things move from one place to the next.

About this Role

We are looking for someone to help with the global, Uber HQ-led internal communications efforts. You will be the first to step into this role and shape an exciting new chapter in Uber’s story with the following key responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Building relationships with senior leaders and advising them on engaging with employees through internal comms.

Designing and executing new company-wide channels to communicate Uber’s story and strategy in new and engaging ways with employees.

Helping to define strategic narratives that support change and bringing them to life for employees through creative communications activities.

Briefing top company leaders ahead of their interactions with employees.

Helping create a vibrant culture, that attracts and retains the best talent for Uber in partnership with the Uber People & Places team, and celebrates our differences and diversity of thought and experience.

Support to enable successful deployment of relevant internal programs.

Highly organized with ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Able to work independently and take the initiative.

What You’ll Need

Ideally, you would have a minimum of 5 years of experience in any field of communications. We are open to people with experience in another walk of life (e.g. government affairs, the media, marketing, political consulting and campaigns) with intellect, hustle, and curiosity, and who want to work on an exciting and high-functioning team. Confidence working with colleagues at all levels of an organization, including working one to one with senior leadership on their communications is also an advantage.

To succeed you’ll need to be:

An excellent writer: We need storytellers who can adapt their style for whomever they may write for, who are attentive to detail, and can zoom out to see the big picture and zoom in to master the details.

A nimble self-starter: Uber is a company of entrepreneurs—we want to work with people who enjoy building things from the bottom up too. Stuff changes fast in our world so you’ll need to be highly adaptable, calm under pressure, and able to drive progress amid ambiguity.

A great advocate: We’re looking for people who can communicate complex ideas in simple, honest, compelling ways.

A strong influencer: We succeed by building effective relationships, and using those relationships to enable the best possible outcome for employees. Open and candid communication is paramount. You’ll have a bias for action in everything you do—and a willingness to engage in debates, with a track record of making data-driven decisions.

A team player: Success at Uber depends on the ability to work across the company with teams on shared goals. It’s why we’re looking for well organized people who enjoy working with others to get stuff done.
