Metro Caring, Colorado’s leading anti-hunger organization, is accepting applications for our Food Access Manager position. This full-time position will oversee the operations of our Fresh Foods Market and Warehouse. The Food Access Manager will supervise the food access team, build strategic partnerships, ensure a positive food access volunteer experience and set the short and long-term direction for the team within a food sovereignty framework and in alignment with Metro Caring’s core values and strategic plan.
While training and onboarding will be provided, we are interested in applicants who have some of the following skills, abilities, and experience:
• Strong interpersonal communication, particularly in diverse communities
• Community focused programming
• Ability to motivate and direct others, working in a team environment
• Attention to detail in managing logistic and reporting aspects of programs
• Bilingual strongly preferred (in Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Russian, Burmese, or West African languages)
• Those who have lived experience with food insecurity will be given priority consideration

POSITION TITLE: Food Access Manager
REPORTING TO: Senior Manager, Food Sovereignty
LOCATION: The Metro Caring office is located at 1100 E 18th Ave, Denver, CO 80218. Limited hours per week may be accomplished through remote work in accordance with Metro Caring guidelines and supervisor approval; however, most hours will take place on site due to the position’s responsibilities.
STARTING DATE: To be negotiated. We are committed to find the right addition to our amazing team.
COMPENSATION: Exempt, full time salaried. Range: $46,000 - $55,000. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Have experience overseeing a team and setting direction (including goal setting, evaluation metrics, and innovation)
• Understand the landscape of food vendors and food rescue
• Demonstrate an ability to build relationships quickly and deeply with diverse people
• Experience building and managing budgets and grants
• Experience managing inventory, placing orders and vendor relationships
• Understand financial reports and concepts such as profit and loss statements, year-to-date actuals, deltas
• Ability to motivate and direct others, working in a team environment
• Strong interpersonal communication, particularly in diverse communities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Attention to detail in managing logistics and reporting aspects of programs
• Ability to bring a diverse, equitable, and inclusive lens to programming
• Ability to lift 40 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift
• Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred
• Able to work Tuesday evenings on a regular basis; other evening or weekend hours may be required
• 1-2 years experience formal management and supervision of others and of a team
• 1-2 years experience managing budget
• 1-2 years experience in warehouse, food retail, or food service operations
• Proven track record in grant writing and reporting
• Comfort and ability to do manual labor and “dirty” work AND the ability to generate that enthusiasm for hard work with volunteers
The Metro Caring Food Access Manager duties include:
Food Access Team Supervision
• Align food access work with Metro Caring’s strategic plan
• Set the culture and the operating norms for the food access team
• Model core values of the organization
• Hire, coach, supervise and evaluate staff within food access team
• Run weekly meetings for food access team
• Provide coaching and regular one-on-one meetings with food access team
• Ensure ongoing individual professional development for food access team members
• Provide oversight, vision, and direction for Metro Caring’s food operations and fresh foods market
• Understand the landscape of food rescue, food sovereignty, and develop fresh ideas for Metro Caring’s role
Food Access Program Partnerships
• Communicate clearly with diverse groups of people throughout our community including volunteers, donors, and participants
• Articulate and model Metro Caring’s values for volunteers and others in the Metro Caring community
• Build and maintain Metro Caring food access partnerships with values aligned organizations
• Work in partnership with the Senior Manager of Food Sovereignty and the development team to create and implement a procurement plan for gaining additional diversified food sources
• Oversee food purchasing and donations with a food sovereignty framework in mind
• Help guide the Development and Communications team at Metro Caring with planning and implementation of food and fund drives with supporting businesses, faith communities, and other organizations
• Engage actively in anti-hunger, food access, and food sovereignty groups and networking in the Denver Metro and Colorado.
• Represent organization at educational and advocacy events to promote Metro Caring, social awareness, networking with non-profits, and speaking about programs and services as needed
Volunteer Management
• Develop and model the supervision and coaching for food access volunteers and interns, and ensure team is trained and supported in those interactions, including de-escalation and conflict resolution
• Design and execute ongoing training in collaboration with Team Volunteer to give Food Access volunteers the tools to excel in their roles
• Make volunteering in food access fun and positive
Financial Management, Fundraising, Compliance
• Ensure compliance with government TEFAP Requirements and reporting
• Maintain food access statistics and data for board reports
• Manage food donations databases, inputting into Meal Connect and Salesforce
• Develop and manage food access budget with support of Senior Manager of Food Sovereignty and Accountant
• Manage the inventory process, which occurs twice a year
• Accurately record, price, and update inventory tracking models leading to annual presentation to the auditors
• Ensure vendor statements and expenses are processed accurately, and submitted to Accounting on time for payment
• Explore and pursue funding, identify new opportunities for support, write grants, and contribute to reports in partnership with Grant Writer.
Culture of Engagement
• Participate in applicable team meetings and monthly all-staff meetings/retreats
• Complete a quarterly shift in another program or department
• Join volunteer gatherings (brief, twice daily meetings for shift volunteers) at least 3x weekly
• Build relationships with volunteers, donors, and participants
The Metro Caring Food Access Manager must possess the ability to build relationships with individuals and families of diverse cultural communities, as well as other food focused organizations and businesses working together with them to achieve goals and outcomes for the direct need and well-being of Metro Caring’s community members. A commitment to continued personal learning and growth around issues of race and class equity is necessary.
Applicants must have reliable transportation. Relocation costs are not covered by Metro Caring.
