Position Title: India Fellow
Location: Washington, DC
Position Type: Part Time – FMC, Part Time – Global India Institute
Compensation: $3,000-5,000 monthly stipend, commensurate with experience
About the role
FMC and Global India Institute (GIC) have an immediate opening for a full-time India Fellow who will split their time between both organizations. The position will be employed by GIC but will be working at least 20 hours per week in person with FMC at their office in Washington, DC. For FMC the qualified candidate will help to build and implement the programming of FMC’s Congressional Study Group on India. For Global India Institute, the candidate will be remote. Successful applicants will have an understanding of the India-U.S. relationship, the Indian political landscape, and broader South Asian geopolitics.
What you'll do:
Responsibilities for FMC:
  • Help create, manage, and execute all aspects of event planning for the Congressional Study Group on India including, but not limited to, roundtable discussions, receptions, lecture series, and study trips to India.
  • Maintain, manage, and grow a network of high-level contacts and stakeholders that participate in our programs.
  • Help manage existing institutional grants and support the development of new funding opportunities.
  • Write grant proposals and prepare grant reports.
  • Assist with FMC’s external communications efforts, including website and social media.
  • Manage and build relationships with vendors.
Responsibilities for Global India Institute:
  • Provide new ideas for high-impact activities and implement new initiatives to help advance the direction of the GIC programming.
  • Assist the GIC in its day-to-day communications and outreach needs to media; work with external consultants as needed and across the Council to coordinate press releases, tip sheets, press calls, and expert pitching; coordinate and manage logistics for events, roundtables, and briefings.
  • Provide research, administrative, and logistical assistance to Center staff.
  • Contribute to a range of ongoing projects, including the planning and execution of meetings, drafting memos, fulfilling administrative tasks, and other activities as needed.
  • Help organize expert briefings with stakeholders in multilateral organizations, financial institutions, government, and the private sector.
  • Produce relevant summaries of meetings both for internal record keeping and external knowledge sharing.
  • Assist the team with special projects, as needed.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate exceptional verbal and written professional communications skills in both English and another language spoken in India.
  • Be a self-starter, independently keeping on top of both long-term and short-term deadlines.
  • Be motivated (you believe in our missions), organized (you enjoy using and building systems), flexible (you can respond to changing priorities), and resourceful with a love for learning (if you don’t know how to do something, you figure it out or you know who to ask).
  • Have authorization to work in the United States.
  • Be team-oriented, with highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Have an interest in and general knowledge of Indo-Pacific affairs.
  • Have basic experience with event planning.
  • Experience interacting and engaging VIPs.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Capitol Hill and/or Diplomatic experience is a plus.
