OVERVIEW

Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath’s communications team is looking for a new

Communications Deputy. The role reports to the Communications Director and is a critical part of a three-person team that is responsible for sharing widely Supervisor Horvath’s bold vision to uplift all voices and care for all people across Los Angeles County. We are ambassadors for her vision, centered around accessibility, care, and a commitment to inclusion.

Supervisor Horvath’s communications team is responsible for media relations, brand management, digital communications, content development, and finding new ways to creatively communicate with constituents and allies.

We are digital forward and use social media to connect people to their government and to engage constituents who may otherwise be left out of the conversation. We are equally focused on direct communication and having a strong presence throughout Los Angeles County’s vibrant Third District.

 

RESPONSIBILTIES

• Messaging: Write and review talking points, speeches, press releases, letters of support, quotes, video scripts, and other content to ensure consistent quality and voice.

• Social media management and strategy: Responsible for the day-to-day social media content calendar, writing and scheduling across X, Facebook, Instagram, and NextDoor. Stay on top of trends, perform social listening, and track data insights.

• Weekly newsletter: Draft the opening message of the weekly newsletter and champion through approval.

• Content calendar: Daily management of the content calendar to ensure we are communicating the right messages at the right time and sharing the Supervisor’s daily engagements and priorities.

• Support letter/correspondence/recognitions: Write, review, and approve letters of support, congratulatory letters, and related content. Coordinate recognition opportunities for impactful community members and organizations.

• Constituent relations: Serve as conduit to the community affairs (field) team to ensure the team is equipped with the latest information across topics and to expedite solutions.

• Multimedia and graphic design: Work with graphics, photo, and video teams to secure

office needs.

• Event support: Lead on assigned events, securing A/V, managing invitations and promotion, and other assigned tasks.

• Media relations: Serve as backup for media relations; develop fact sheets and related materials for complex issues that can be used for media, constituents, and other stakeholders.

• Special projects: Lead on special projects based on policy interest or as assigned.

• Internal support: Maintaining working relationships with relevant policy and community affairs staff.

• Adept at navigating complex environments and large social challenges.

• Detail oriented and multi-tasking extraordinaire.

• Positive, self-starter comfortable making recommendations and solving diverse issues.

• Comfortable working under tight deadlines with shifting priorities.

• Familiarity with Mailchimp, Sprout Social, Wordpress or equivalent programs.

• Interest in politics and strengthening Los Angeles County communities.

• Comfortable working occasional evenings and weekends with flexibility during the week for additional hours worked.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Three or more years of communications experience, preferably for an elected official or other related fast-paced political environment, including journalism, public policy, or political campaigns.

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, political science, or related field.

• Comfortable working in-office four days a week.

• Political experience is a major plus.
