The Director, Media Relations is responsible for communication to the media, including preparation of press kits, press releases and other media content initiatives. The Director, Media Relations also contributes to day-to-day media relations and executes external communications strategies and programs that support key issues. This position is salaried, exempt and reports to the Executive Vice President, Global Communications and Public Affairs.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and implement communications for external audiences, creates media relations strategies and procedures to improve maintain the organizations image and reputation.

Develop and implement media outreach opportunities through various tactics and respond to media requests, coordinate print and broadcast interviews.

Cultivate and enhance collaborative working relationships with the press.

Protect and promote the organization and its stakeholders in a responsible, coordinated and consistent manner.

Draft and maintain Association messaging documents, talking points, and other internal communications resources.

Research key topics, identify external reports and data, and monitor industry trends to ensure MPA information is current.

Coordinate with internal departments and member companies to align strategy and execution.

Collaborate with MPA digital team on strategy and content for the Association’s online presence and social media activity.

Contribute to content including written materials, videos, and infographics for MPA’s online properties, issue briefs, research products, etc.

Other relevant duties and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Political Science, Public Relations or related field required.

Minimum of five years’ experience working in a press/media, public affairs and/or political capacity.

Qualifications

Must possess the highest level of work ethic and integrity with the ability to maintain confidential information.

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)

Expertise in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Proven ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Proven ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
