POSITION PURPOSE

The Associate Director of Major Gifts oversees the emerging and expanding stewardship and midlevel giving programs as well as the day to day operations of the Leadership Gifts team. Working in tandem with the Director of Leadership Gifts, Senior Director Development, and Senior Leadership Team, and Board craft and drive the organization’s stewardship plan for principal, major, and midlevel giving prospects. Lead and empower direct reports; Stewardship Officer, Individual Giving, Officer, and Major Gifts Coordinator through mentorship, positive learning experiences, and opportunities to grow. Manage a personal, high level portfolio of donors capable of making six and seven figure gifts to the organization. Reports to the Director Major Gifts.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

• Manage a personal portfolio of 30-50 donors via Moves Management resulting in five, six, and seven figure gifts 

• Grow the Major Gifts stewardship program to support the sophisticated Major giving vehicles and principal giving prospects 

• Work with the Annual Fund and DevOps teams along with the Individual Giving Officer to drive strategy for midlevel giving portfolio and stewardship of midlevel donors with capacity. 

• Supervise and mentor the Major Gifts Coordinator, Stewardship Officer, and Individual Giving Officer and their associated responsibilities. 

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Major Gifts team by guiding the efforts of the Major Gifts Coordinator build and manage the master calendar, work with Development Operations to supply regular data, and manage expense budget needs.

• Manage Individual Giving Officer, Stewardship Officer, and Major Gift Coordinator by developing strategies, outlining actionable work, and achieving annual team goals.

• Collaborate with the Annual Fund and DevOps Teams along with the Individual Giving Officer to drive stewardship of midlevel subsection and the mid-level giving portfolio (and build a pipeline for new major gift donors).

• Orchestrate stewardship opportunities for mid-level and major gift donors by working with Special Events Team and the Stewardship Officer as well as growing the stewardship program to create individualized principal gift offerings.  

• Provide support to the entire Major Gifts team by working with the Major Gifts Coordinator on tasks designed to more efficiently and effectively manage administrative information and support for the Major Giving, Midlevel Giving, and Legacy giving programs. 

• Participate in prospect management meetings to collaborate with fellow giving officers on complicated cases, engage in donor pipeline management, and craft high level, multi-tiered solicitations.

• Actively monitor individual portfolio as well as track changes in activities and strategies by updating proposals in Raiser’s Edge

• Engage Director of Leadership Gifts, Senior Development Director, Executive Suite and Board Members as well as other Food Bank colleagues and volunteers in fundraising activities as appropriate.

• Work directly with key Food Bank staff members and/or outside contacts (such as vendors) to executive stewardship events.

• Other duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements

• Relationships within the portfolio are regularly advanced and the overall monetary value of the portfolio is increased.

• Staff are empowered to lead their programs and are demonstrating professional progression. 

• Donors are engaged through a variety of stewardship opportunities and feel intimately connected to the mission of the Food Bank.

• Donors are being regularly upgraded from the midlevel program to Major Gifts. 

• The Food Bank is positioned to launch a formal Principal Giving program that is supported by a strong stewardship strategy. 

• The Leadership Gifts team remains on track in deadlines and understands day to day expectations well in advance. 

• Major Gifts donors and prospects feel a personal connection with the Executive Director, Board members, and/or other staff outside of the Development Department

QUALIFICATIONS 

• 10 years of progressive individual giving fundraising experience

• Demonstrated supervisory experience and enthusiasm for mentorship

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to manage high level prospects and manage up to the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors

• Passion for the mission of the organization 

• Ability support a community of diverse perspectives
