Public Affairs Specialist

Summary

Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation (ISN) prevents the spread of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), delivery systems, and advanced conventional weapons capabilities. The Office of Congressional and Public Affairs (CPA) is responsible for developing, coordinating, and executing foreign and domestic outreach efforts through public diplomacy and public affairs to support Bureau, Department, and U.S. Government international security priorities.


Duties

At the GS-11 and 12 level, the incumbent performs essentially the same duties as outlined; however, the scope and complexity of assignments are of less responsibility and independence and receive closer supervision than at the GS-13 level.

Monitors and evaluates past and present media coverage and interactions, reviews alternatives for message delivery, assesses potential impact, and provides recommendations to achieve results consistent with U.S. foreign policy goals.

Coordinates media, interviews, and/or speaking engagements within ISN.

Requests from the news media, stakeholder groups such as universities and think tanks, the general public, the interagency, and/or other bureaus in the Department.

Maintains effective working relations with public affairs and public diplomacy offices in the Department, at posts, and around the interagency community to ensure coordinated and timely public messaging and outreach.
