The Office of New York City Council Member Margaret Chin is accepting applications for our summer internship program. Qualified applicants will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, and consistent organization skills. Interns will be responsible for managing constituent services, conducting legislative research, attending community meetings on behalf of the office, and assisting the communications team with social media campaigns. Our office is working remotely and interns would not be asked to travel to either office during the course of the internship. Hours are flexible and we are happy to help interns secure academic credit for their time with our office.

Biography

Council Member Margaret Chin represents the neighborhoods of Battery Park City, Civic Center, Chinatown, Financial District, Little Italy, the Lower East Side, NoHo, SoHo, South Street Seaport, South Village, TriBeCa & Washington Square. She is Chair of the City Council Committee on Aging, and sits on the Committees on Consumer Affairs and Business Licensing; Housing and Buildings; Rules, Privileges, and Elections; and Standards and Ethics and Youth Services. Council Member Chin has served District 1 and Lower Manhattan since 2009, when she became the first Asian-American woman to hold elected office in New York City Council. She is a founding member of the Progressive Caucus and is a member of the Women’s Caucus, and the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus. She immigrated with her family from Hong Kong to New York City and grew up in Chinatown.
