The Senior Program Manager will support efforts to develop and articulate a “Latino lens” within current and future public discussion on racial equity and racial justice. The goal of this position is to help: 1) ensure that both the contributions of and the systemic barriers facing the Latino community are accurately understood by the public and key segments thereof; and 2) strengthen and sustain an accurate and proportional representation of Latinos in public discourse over time. 

This position will research and document how Latinos have experienced manifestations of structural racism. This person will author or co-author, edit, and publish major works (e.g., reports, journal articles, papers) and develop a dissemination plan. This senior program manager will participate in fundraising efforts, identify new opportunities, and draft funder proposals and reports. This position will prepare reports, fact sheets, presentations, and talking points for use by both UnidosUS staff, leadership, and with diverse audiences. 

This position is hybrid and based in our Washington, DC office. Depending on the candidate, we may be open to remote work (Eligible states: Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York)

Salary: $83,022 - $98,230 (salary differentials may apply outside of the Washington DC area.)

Essential Functions

Writing and Research (60%)

  • Possess familiarity with issues related to inequality and structural racism in the Latino community and knowledge of Latino history in the United States.
  • Apply critical evaluation of material gathered from a variety of sources (such as academic journals and policy reports) to conduct literature reviews including but not limited to:
  • Research and synthesize essential literature on systemic/institutional racism, specifically the Latino-focused subset of that literature.
  • Review and summarize core civil rights laws, highlighting strengths and weaknesses from the Latino community’s perspective.
  • Help prepare brief analyses on how specific disparities experienced by Latinos in UnidosUS’s key issue areas (Education, Health, Immigration, Housing, Immigration, and Workforce) may be explained by systemic and structural racism.
  • Develop policy recommendations based on research evidence.
  • Draft high-quality research reports.
  • Manage research projects at a high-quality level, including regarding time and budget.
  • Keep up with new developments in relevant racial justice and racial equity policy research areas.
  • Disseminate findings widely (including web content such as blogs) and other media releases.
  • Prepare, draft, review, and edit a variety of position papers and related products, including blogs, press releases, op-eds, one-pagers, and articles on relevant journals or publications.
  • Assist with literary review and media scans and help prepare abstracts and strategies based on findings.
  • Create content for social real-time influencer engagement opportunities.
  • Engage in policy work related to Latinos and racial equity.

Management and Administrative Support (20%)

  • Provide timely and professional operations support to the Racial Equity Initiative and Narrative Change efforts related to the impact of systemic racism on the Latino community and the Recipe for Unity campaign’s related projects.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with allied individuals, policymakers, coalition partners, funders, and others to provide support for UnidosUS’s Racial Equity policy work.
  • Schedule meetings/conference calls across multiple time zones and calendars.
  • Serve as meeting/conference call administrator/moderator.
  • Prepare and disseminate documents and agendas before meetings and disseminate meeting notes upon completion.
  • Assist in the coordination of regular meetings with sub-grantees (30-plus individuals or organizations), respective partners, and funders. This work includes supporting project staff in the development of pre-meeting materials, reviewing contracts, etc.
  • Partner with the finance team to timely process all invoices via Concur, keeping compliance and funder (federal and non-federal) policies and procedures in mind.
  • Provide requested research for upcoming projects, initiatives, and opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned and required.

Fundraising and Ideas Generation in collaboration with Resource Development (15%)

  • Identify new business opportunities and work with team members to win new work.
  • Generate new ideas for fundable research projects focused on policy or narrative change.
  • Contribute to drafting proposals for outside funding.

Data Management (5%)

  • Maintain and/or update all contacts and networks related to the Racial Equity Initiative and Narrative Change efforts.
  • Help maintain the program listserv and communications with partners in academia, media influencers, and consultants.
  • Create and maintain a repository and e-files of relevant documents and literature.
  • Support Racial Equity Initiative efforts with data entry related to program management and creation and maintenance of the listserv with partners and coalitions.

Qualifications & Requirements 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Professional with five (5) years to seven (7) years of relevant experience in a nonprofit setting working on Latino issues. 
  • Strong writing and project management experience.
  • Knowledge of key racial justice trends, debates, and struggles in all communities of color.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Office 365.
  • Robust understanding of and commitment to improving opportunities for the Latino community.
  • Flexibility to travel 20% of the time, sometimes on short notice.
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the Latino community.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Racial justice experience within the Latino community.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills
