Job Responsibilities


The duties of the Public Affairs Intern will include a sampling of the four core components essential for day-to-day functions of the Government & Public Affairs department


  • Communications - assisting with writing for the employee newsletter and news releases while using AP style, photography, assisting with creative concepts, and media schedule planning
  • Internal Relations - assisting with the coordination of internal events
  • External Relations - assisting with the coordination of external events, participating in Partners in Education and TeamCITGO volunteer activities
  • Government Relations - assisting with events with our local legislative delegation and elected official


For the duration of this internship, the Intern will foster many professional relationships within the community including local media representatives and elected officials.

Minimum Requirements


  • Full-time student pursuing bachelor's degree in Mass Communications or Marketing or graduate student enrolled in MBA program
  • 60 credit hours completed (Junior or Senior)
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or above (A=4.0)
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License


Eligibility Requirements


The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration. Candidates selected for employment must meet eligibility criteria to obtain a TWIC card.
