Intelligence Research Specialist

Summary

This position is in the Excepted Service under U.S.C. 50 § 3024(v) and appointments are made without regard to the requirements of the Competitive Service by laws, Executive order, or OPM regulations.


This position is in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, Office of Analysis for East Asia and the Pacific (INR/EAP). The office is responsible for the analysis of classified information concerning political, diplomatic, socio-economic, & cultural affairs of East Asia & the Pacific region.



Duties

Reviews and report on issues related to political, diplomatic (including bilateral relations with the U.S.), socio-economic, & cultural affairs of Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Island countries as they affect U.S. foreign policy interests.

Prepares INR assessments and intelligence briefings for the Secretary of State, the Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs, and other policy officials.

Maintains close contact with policy bureaus and US embassies, brief relevant intelligence products to them, and work to ensure that Intelligence Community efforts are responsive to their information needs.

Assist INR’s International Partnerships Unit with its work facilitating the Bureau’s interactions with Five Eyes government officials, particularly those from Australia and New Zealand.

The incumbent of the GS-12 position performs essentially the same duties as the GS-13, under closer supervision and decreased level of complexity.
