U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) seeks a Deputy Communications Director. Under direction of the Communications Director, the Deputy Communications Director is the first point of contact for members of the media contacting Senator Padilla’s Washington, D.C. office and is responsible for drafting and reviewing materials distributed by the communications shop – including press releases, fact sheets, speeches, website content, and policy background targeting reporters. The Deputy Communications Director interacts directly with legislative and field staff to gather relevant policy information and distill it for a media audience, acts as the media liaison for the Senator, helps develop and implement media strategy across earned media and online platforms for the Senator. This role is responsible for helping manage press staff to execute and develop a strategic, long-term digital messaging strategy for the office. The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communications skills, a track record of working effectively with media and external stakeholders and have strong time management. Spanish language skills are strongly preferred. This position is Washington, D.C.-based.
