A New York City Council Member is seeking a dynamic Communications Director to drive all aspects of the Office’s communications development, strategy, and execution. Working closely with the Council Member, the Communications Director works to effectively showcase, promote, and bolster the Council Member’s profile, district work, and policy agenda. We’re looking for candidates with a keen sense of New York City’s media landscape, strong writing skills, and a deep understanding of the city and state’s political climate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Handle press inquiries, pitch op-eds and engage with press

· Draft and review communications on behalf of the Council Member

· Organize, publicize and staff the Council Member at press conferences and public-facing events

· Represent the Council Member at district wide meetings, including night and weekend events

· Serve as a liaison with city agencies, elected officials’ offices, community groups, local organizations, and constituents

· Other office duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Exceptional communication and writing skills

· Ability to write on a deadline and work with local media

· Highly organized and careful attention to detail

· Fluency in digital media

· An interest in local government, local advocacy, and city issues

· Some graphic design knowledge

· Fluency in Spanish highly preferred.

· Must have a valid New York State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

· Deep knowledge of District 11, including its neighborhoods, history, and diverse communities.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.
