The San Diego County Water Authority is an independent public agency that serves as San Diego County's regional water wholesaler. The mission of the Water Authority is to provide a safe and reliable water supply to its 24 member agencies serving the region's $253 billion economy and 3.3 million residents.
The Position
The Assistant Management Analyst/Management Analyst performs routine to moderately complex professional administrative, organizational, financial, budgetary, statistical, economic, and other management analysis in support of departmental or Water Authority-wide activities, functions and programs, including various MWD programs and projects; and performs related duties as assigned. The Assistant Management Analyst/Management Analyst will also be responsible for preparing technical and policy-oriented reports, correspondence, and action plans, and will advocate for the Water Authority when appropriate.
The ideal candidate is an independent self-starter who has a positive "can-do" attitude and who thrives in fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and superb attention to detail, be capable of performing complex economic analysis and translating the results into meaningful information, have persuasive written, verbal, and graphical communication skills, and will embrace outside the box thinking. The successful candidate will be pragmatic, will approach all data with a healthy dose of skepticism so all final analyses incorporate multiple perspectives, will possess strong interpersonal skills, can persevere during conflict, and is comfortable working in a dynamic political environment. The successful candidate will also enjoy working with people and be comfortable in presenting information to broad audiences.
The Metropolitan Water District (MWD) Program
The MWD Program develops and implements strategies to achieve the Water Authority's long-term supply reliability goals from MWD, including ensuring its financial sustainability. The MWD Program also serves as a liaison with water agencies throughout the MWD service area, state and federal officials, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to promote and advance the Water Authority's positions on issues impacting MWD supply reliability, water quality and costs. The MWD Program supports the Water Authority's representatives on the MWD Board and coordinates and integrates internal departments' MWD related activities to ensure alignment with the Water Authority's MWD objectives.
Work Location and Travel Requirement
This position may be based out of the San Diego County Water Authority's San Diego (Kearny Mesa) or Los Angeles location. This position will also travel approximately 2 - 4 times per month within Southern California to attend member agency meetings and water infrastructure tours (Colorado River Aqueduct and Bay Delta in Sacramento Area).
