The Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) is a coalition of companies and trade associations from the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy sectors. Established in 1992, BCSE advocates for policies that expand the use of commercially available clean energy technologies, products, and services.

About the position

This position will work as part of the BCSE team and will engage on all facets of BCSE’s work, primarily providing support to BCSE policy committees and external relations with members. At least 25% of the position will be dedicated to supporting BCSE’s international programs and annual engagement at the UN Climate Change Conference. The position will also provide support to federal clean energy and climate advocacy programs. Policy program support will include research, writing projects, and day-to-day administrative tasks. External relations tasks include working with members in support of BCSE events, assisting with membership retention and recruitment, and attending related policy events, hearings, etc. for the coalition. This position is based in Washington, D.C.


BCSE is looking for a talented, motivated, and detail-oriented person who can work as part of a small team that is dedicated to advancing policies that will accelerate the pace of the energy transition in the United States. Candidates should have a general understanding of energy and climate topics, experience in international relations, and interest in working with businesses and developing skills in government relations. Knowledge of inter-governmental (United Nations) and U.S. legislative/regulatory processes is beneficial.

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Provide support to BCSE policy committees: International, Federal, and State and Regional
  • Assist with planning and preparation of member engagement at international conferences
  • Conduct research and analysis on legislative and regulatory policies impacting clean energy sectors
  • Maintain and update member information, track member news, and assist with recruitment and outreach
  • Prepare and help execute BCSE events – including e-communications, registration, and logistics
  • Manage BCSE’s database entry and upkeep, as well as other contact lists

 

Preferred Skills:

Qualified candidates should have relevant education or experience in international relations, business, climate, energy, sustainability, and/or political advocacy.


Additional preferred skills include:

  • Strong professional writing and research skills
  • Proficiency in project management and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate in a corporate and professional manner – both internally and externally
  • Familiarity or experience with business coalition, energy sector, legislative, and executive branch of government operations or public relations
  • A willingness to chip in and eagerness to learn about all aspects of the operations of a clean energy business coalition
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • An undergraduate degree and at least 1-3 years working experience in related fields

 

BCSE Issue Areas

BCSE is a member-driven, policy-focused trade association that advocates for policies to advance the growth and deployment of clean energy in the United States and abroad. Current domestic issue areas of focus include energy, tax, infrastructure, appropriations, and climate change policy.


At the international level, BCSE works on multi-lateral cooperative efforts on clean energy and climate change, including technology promotion, investment, finance, and trade.

 

Compensation

This is a full-time position with an annual salary. BCSE offers paid annual leave and participation in its 401K retirement program, among other benefits.
