Director of Community Partnerships, Too Small to Fail

Too Small to Fail (TSTF), the early childhood education initiative of the Clinton Foundation, promotes early brain and language development by supporting parents and caregivers with tools to talk, read and sing their young children starting at birth. Through partnerships with community-based organizations, hospitals, businesses, entertainment industry leaders and others, Too Small to Fail is meeting parents where they are to help prepare their children for success in school. Whether at the pediatrician's office or the playground, Too Small to Fail aims to make small moments big by creating meaningful opportunities for meaningful interactions anytime, anywhere.
Too Small to Fail works at both the national and community level to reach parents and caregivers by strategically using media, building national and community partnerships, as well as supporting local early brain development campaigns. These local "Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing" campaigns launched in the flagship cities of Oakland, CA, and Tulsa, OK in 2014. Today, there are 35 community campaigns across the country, as well as two statewide campaigns in New York and Michigan. Through trusted messengers such as librarians, pediatricians, and faith leaders; high quality materials and tools; and messages in community spaces, including bus shelters, playgrounds, laundromats, and grocery stores, Too Small to Fail is working with communities across the country to boost early brain and language development and prepare children for kindergarten and beyond.
Too Small to Fail is looking for a Director of Community Partnerships to lead the scaling and implementation of our initiatives and resources in diverse communities across the country.
Core Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
Develop, implement, and scale a strategic framework for community partners. Provide them with a menu of options to engage with TSTF to promote early learning, including:
Creating/implementing local community campaigns;
Scaling Too Small to Fail's "spaces" (laundromats, churches, pediatric clinics, WIC offices, etc.) into engaging, learning-rich environments throughout local communities;
Building synergies between local communities and TSTF national media campaigns;
Working with TSTF national partners that have significant communities' networks and local reach to build community partnerships and distribute TSTF's early literacy resources;
Building new partnerships with publishing companies, donors, NGOs, and others to distribute books and other educational resources through local community partners.
Oversee the support and scaling of Too Small to Fail's "Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing" campaigns, the initiative's local community campaigns focused on supporting parents/caregivers with information and tools to support early brain/language development. This scope of work includes:
Planning and hosting TSTF events (in-person and virtual) to support and lift up community initiatives (webinars, launch events, etc.);
Developing and leading trainings for trusted messengers (pediatricians, librarians, WIC clinicians and other community leaders);
Overseeing research evaluations of communities' initiatives as needed;
Supporting a peer-learning network so that communities can continue to learn from one another and provide feedback on TSTF content and programs;
Supervising program associate who manages the day-to-day communication with the communities' network and provides technical support in helping them implement their campaigns.
Work with CEO and Director of TSTF to align and integrate national, community and media partnerships for increased program effectiveness and ability to expand reach and impact, particularly among lower-income communities and communities of color.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree with a focus on education, educational psychology, sociology, social work or related field preferred;
A minimum of 10++ years of relevant experience, with a preference for experience in building and scaling community partnerships and/or managing external partnerships/relationships;
Self-starter with the ability to develop and build community partnerships with diverse communities;
Knowledge of how to implement community initiatives and experience in bringing projects to scale;
Strong relationship management, project management skills, and oral and written communication skills;
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate positively with multiple partners;
Ability to adapt and work on multiple projects simultaneously, with an "all hands-on deck" attitude;
Fundraising experience preferred
