SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR MEMBERSHIP, AMERICA’S PHYSICIAN GROUPS (APG)

Title:               Senior Vice President for Membership, America’s Physician Groups (APG)

Location:       Hybrid, with the base of operations being the Washington, DC office of APG. Travel is expected and required. 

I.              Summary Description: Under the direction of America’s Physician Group’s President & CEO, the Senior Vice President for Membership will be a highly motivated individual who will develop an acute understanding of the membership of APG, create and implement a visionary strategy for further APG membership recruitment, growth, and retention; design and execute impactful membership engagement strategies; and establish strong internal systems for tracking membership, engagement, and support that link to other aspects of APG’s operations. The SVP will have a leadership role in the organization and oversee related efforts, such as APG’s Partner program (outlined below). The Vice President of Partnerships and Industry Relations will report to this position.

II.             Responsibilities of the SVP for Membership:

A.    Membership Growth Strategy:  Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

1.    Based on an acute understanding of the goals of APG and its membership, develop and implement an overall APG Membership growth strategy premised on outreach to every possible physician group in the nation engaged in value-based care. This comprehensive strategy should include specific objectives, targets, and tactics for prospective member identification, cultivation, and solicitation.

2.    Directly recruiting members and creating opportunities for APG’s President and CEO to meet with potential major recruits and “close the deal.”  

3.    Monitor and track the progress of membership recruitment efforts and maintain lists of potential recruits. 

4.    Developing template emails, communications, and collateral materials for various membership-related purposes.

5.    Monitoring and assessing the membership recruitment strategies of other associations in the health care arena. 

6.    Providing written and verbal reports to the Board and Executive Committees about membership recruitment upon request, including membership application documents for Board approval.

7.    Collaborate closely with key internal peers (e.g., those focused on policy and advocacy, education, finance, conferences, and other activities) to ensure that members remain at the center of everything APG does.

B.    Retention of members. Duties will include, but not be limited to:

1.    Ensuring members receive value from APG and maintain their memberships and monthly dues payments accordingly.  

2.    Providing high customer service for all members in tandem with others on the APG team charged with this role.

3.    Design, develop, and conduct periodic member surveys to determine if APG meets their needs and to learn what services they want and are not receiving.

4.    Conducting new member orientation meetings.

5.    Developing and producing a limited number of in-person APG Regional Membership meetings that have attracted significant members in the past, such as in CA, HI, NW, SE, and Puerto Rico.

6.    Developing and producing regular virtual meetings to engage members, including the General Membership meetings (currently at three annually).  Work with the President and CEO to plan and execute periodic General Membership virtual meetings.

7.    Develop and implement plans to contact members and encourage them to access all other APG programs, forums, and meetings.

8.    Working with others on the APG team to identify members for participation in various APG meetings and forums and showcase member information on APG's website, including videos, tools, and playbooks.

C.    Other Duties and Responsibilities

1.    Working closely with the Vice President of Partnerships and Health Care Industry Relations to align partnership opportunities with member interests and concerns, increase annual revenue to APG from sponsors, and create new sponsor programs and opportunities.

2.    Assisting in the design, production, and content of APG conferences to involve and engage members, as requested.

III.           Qualifications for Position

A.    Education: A Bachelor’s degree is a minimum requirement; a master’s degree in business or other advanced degree is preferred.

B.    Experience: At least five years of experience at a senior level in a membership or similar organization, with a demonstrated track record of successful member recruitment and retention. 

C.    Skills and Capacities

  • Ability to engage in deep and rapid learning about the goals and priorities of an organization and its leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possession of strong interpersonal skills and an outgoing, extroverted, and “salesperson” persona able to make a persuasive case for APG membership
  • Demonstrated ability to tee up meetings and conversations between prospective members and APG leadership
  • Ability to lead a team of support personnel assisting in the membership recruitment and retention process
  • Ability to use standard current business tools such as PowerPoint and Excel
  • Willingness to meet regularly with prospective members in person and virtually; willingness to travel as needed.
