The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS, the League) is a nonpartisan political organization that has fought for more than 100 years to improve American systems of government and impact public policies through citizen education, advocacy, and litigation. The enduring vitality and resonance of the League as a trusted force for change and good government comes from its unique decentralized structure: a national organization with strong partnerships at the grassroots level with more than 700 state and local Leagues across the country including the District of Columbia. At the national level, League activities are coordinated and staffed by two distinct but complementary organizations: The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) and the League of Women Voters Education Fund (LWVEF).

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The National Campaign Director will lead the LWV team in support of the national Electoral College Campaign - "One Person, One Vote." Collaborating with Advocacy and Litigation, Communications, External Affairs, Mission Impact, and Organizing, the Director will develop integrated field and legislative/administrative strategies, ensuring successful rollout to stakeholders, campaign partners, 50 state affiliates, and the District of Columbia. This role involves directing and coordinating all aspects of the campaign, working with a cross-functional team to establish goals, strategies, and budgets. The Director will focus on building staff capacity for collaborative work, enhancing issue expertise, and campaign skills. The ideal candidate is dynamic, possesses excellent interpersonal skills, is sensitive to community needs, and demonstrates tenacity to win.

Operating as a central decision-maker for "One Person, One Vote" at the national level, the Director will influence overall campaign strategy, priorities, and budgeting decisions in partnership with key stakeholders. They will manage external engagements, develop messaging frames, and identify areas of focus for the team, responding to unexpected developments.

The National Campaign Director will report to the National Organizing Director.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: ?

  • Collaborate with LWVUS departments (Advocacy and Litigation, Communications, External Affairs, Mission Impact, and Organizing) to develop comprehensive strategies for advancing campaign goals. ?
  • Maintain awareness of emerging opportunities and challenges related to the Electoral College and NVP compacts. ?
  • Support fundraising efforts for the campaign and LWV as a whole. ?
  • Provide subject matter expertise, advice, and support to colleagues developing campaigns strategies and tactics. ?
  • Develop and deliver training to staff, filed and partners on key areas to advance campaign goals. ?
  • Regularly update the board, staff, and membership on campaign strategy and outcomes. ?
  • Demonstrate flexibility, adjusting priorities as necessary to adapt to a changing external environment. ?
  • Center principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in all work and embed these values in program development, policy application, and organizational practices. ?
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of LWV. ?
  • Collaboratively resolve obstacles and conflicts. ?
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the campaign. ?
  • Effectively communicate the campaign's vision, ideas, goals, and issues to internal and external stakeholders in partnership with the Communications team. ?
  • Monitor action items, deadlines, and campaign metrics of success, adjusting plans as needed. ?
  • Coordinate and implement fundraising initiatives in partnership with development staff. ?
  • Provide ongoing updates on the campaign to leadership and highlight state successes. ?
  • Develop and manage the campaign budget, working with the Administration Department to ensure expenditures align with the budget. ?
  • Travel is expected (15 – 20%)
Requirements:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:


Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or comparable experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

The National Campaign Director is a highly-skilled individual 7+ years of deep issue campaign experience and a passion for democracy, voting rights, and civil rights issues. They have a proven track record in designing and executing sophisticated campaign plans on a national scale. ?

  • Proven track record in issue advocacy/organizing and/or electoral campaign experience at the national/federal level; campaign management experience strongly preferred. ?
  • Expertise in developing and implementing inside/outside strategies, using both offline and online tactics. ?
  • Decisive in strategic planning, maintaining flexibility in a changing environment. ?
  • Vision and skills to create and articulate an inspiring vision for the campaign. ?
  • Ability to set clear and challenging goals, demonstrating tenacity and accountability in driving results. ?
  • Comfort with ambiguity and uncertainty, adapting nimbly and leading others through complex situations.

LOCATIONS

The League of Women Voters US is based in Washington, DC. This is a hybrid position. The selected candidate is expected to work at least two (2) days per week in the Washington, DC Headquarters office.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary for this position is $121,000. We have a generous benefits package that includes 95 percent employer –sponsored health insurance, dental and vision insurance, paid holidays, vacation days, sick days, pre-tax transit benefits, and the opportunity to contribute to a 401(K) plan.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The person in this position is primarily sedentary and needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery. The person must also be available to travel and walk longer distances to offices and events. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, and computer printer.
