The Opportunity
The Philanthropy team at Emerson Collective provides support to nonprofits through grantmaking as well as various programs. The team is seeking a temporary Program Coordinator (January 2023 - August 2023) to support the First-Generation (FirstGen) Internship Program that works to connect college students from underserved California communities to summer internship opportunities across a variety of Emerson Collective nonprofit grantees and portfolio companies.
Through this program, students are able to gain meaningful professional development opportunities, and Emerson Collective grantees and portfolio companies are able to gain invaluable support during the summer months. As a key member of Emerson Collective’s Philanthropy team, this position will assume a critical role in executing many aspects of the FirstGen Internship program. This role will report to the Director of the FirstGen Internship Program, and will also work closely with the Philanthropy team, as well as other Emerson Collective team members. Role and Responsibilities
- Interface regularly with FirstGen Interns and other Emerson Collective partners to share information, answer questions, and collect feedback
- Manage scheduling for FirstGen team to ensure communication with students and partners is seamless throughout the application cycle, placement process, and summer program
- Collaborate with the Events team to curate creative programming by planning and executing in-person, hybrid and virtual events, including scoping content and flow of the event, distributing communications, managing the RSVP and registration process, preparing event materials, managing transportation for event participants, providing set-up support (including moving tables, chairs, and other items <30 lbs as needed), and greeting & assisting guests
- Develop and maintain processes, documents, and templates related to planning, timelines, budgeting and expenses, workflows, announcements, and feedback
- Collaborate with the Emerson Collective team and program participants on ways to innovate our programs, such as improving existing offerings and researching and developing potential new offerings
- Partner with IT team to manage Salesforce data on program participants, run reports as needed, and create data-driven presentations and analysis
- Coordinate and manage FirstGen Internship program calendar in Airtable
- Complete special projects as assigned
Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements
- Passionate about mission-driven work and excited to engage directly with a wide variety of audiences including FirstGen college students, nonprofits, and startups
- Lived experience as a first-generation college student or work/volunteer experience with FirstGen college students preferred
- Experience in recruiting a plus
- Experience in project management and program management
- Knowledge of event production with an emphasis on logistical aspects of event planning including detailed timelines, project plans, budgets, floor plan development, and A/V
- Superior attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness, including the ability to self-monitor work to ensure high quality
- Proven ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, and organize in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team
- Relationship management experience with a focus on seamless client service
- Ability to work under pressure and handle difficult situations with poise and tact
- Excellent research, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Thorough knowledge of Google Suite, Office Suite, Apple products, Zoom, Airtable, Splash, SurveyMonkey and Salesforce as well as comfort learning other platforms and database systems
- Ability to travel <30% during June, July and August
- 5+ years of work experience preferred
