Position Summary:
The Member Engagement Director is responsible for advising and executing the
DCCC Chair’s goals for engaging the Members of the House Democratic Caucus about the work of the DCCC. The Member Engagement Director will work directly with the Deputy Executive Director for Stakeholder Engagement to implement a program designed to engage Members fully in the work of the organization, oversee the Member Engagement department, and support the Committee's outreach to the Caucus.

The ideal candidate will be self-starting, strategic, have strong political and campaign finance acumen, and be passionate about Democratic campaigns. This is not a traditional 9-5 role. Evening and weekend work and communication will be expected from time to time.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Represent DCCC and serves as liaison to assigned Democratic Members of Congress, Chiefs of Staff, and Members’ campaign staff, on behalf of the Committee and its departments.
    • Produces communication systems to COS and Member campaign staff to update them on DCCC news, programing and events
    • Plan and help execute, in close communication with the Deputy Executive Director and relevant DCCC departments, a program of consistent engagement including:
      • Caucus meetings hosted by the DCCC,
      • Tri and Ideological caucus briefings,
      • Delegation meetings,
      • Chief of staff and committee staff directors programming including briefings, happy hours, and retreats.
      • Other meetings/briefings that face the Members and their staff as assigned.
    • Proactively problem solve issues before they arise regarding competing Member interests,
    • Serve as internal thought leader and contact on Member engagement team, and to bring the Member’s perspective to the Senior Leadership Team,
    • Respond to Member and Chiefs of Staff inquiries,
    • Identify, build, strengthen and manage key strategic relationships and communicate regularly to Members ofCongress and staff aboDCCC activities/programs including campaigns, mobilization of voters, messaging, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts,
    • Work closely with Member Dues team to encourage and facilitate Member fundraising and dues paying
  • In collaboration with various DCCC departments build and maintain strong relationships with assigned ideological and constituency caucuses and House Democratic Leadership
    • Establish clearly defined goals and outcomes including tracking engagement for assigned caucuses, and update and maintain proper reporting metrics and funnel management.
    • Be prepared to present and represent DCCC at caucus and stakeholder events, and retreats; and report back internally after these events on key takeaways.
  • Maintain awareness and be prepared to provide assessments of races and candidates for supporters and stakeholders’ external convenings when needed.
  • Communicate with Members or Members-Elect as assigned or requested on individual campaign and political goals, tactics, and plans
    • Encourage Members-Elect to pay dues, serve as surrogates, and help re-capture the majority
    • Facilitate Member-Elect transition to Congress by providing updates, introductions, and consultation
  • Work closely with Campaigns and Organizing departments to lead and manage the Launchpad program to facilitate Hill staff volunteer opportunities and distributed volunteer organizing efforts on campaigns
  • Manage a team to achieve high performance, building trust and developing individual talent that provides clear direction and fosters a growth mindset,
  • Other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Commitment to the election of Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives
  • Prior experience working with Members of Congress and staff preferred and interest in building and maintaining working relationships with members and staff of the House Democratic Caucus.
  • 1-2 cycles of experience working in and around politics, campaigns and/or advocacy work with an understanding of legislative, campaign and political processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office, especially Excel and G-Suite preferred. Experience with relationship management software is preferred but not required.
  • Communicates expectations effectively, focusing on how departmental contributions relate to DCCC’s overall objectives
  • Encourages collaboration within the team and with different departments. Experience coordinating work across multiple departments and also managing projects in an independent fashion.
