The Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MCASA) provides technical assistance, training, outreach and prevention programming in pursuit of our mission to help prevent sexual assault, advocate for accessible compassionate care for survivors of sexual violence, and work to hold offenders accountable.
We are looking for a full-time Prevention and Media Coordinator to assist with MCASA’s Primary Prevention Capacity Assessment project, a new statewide media campaign, and our community outreach and education efforts.
MCASA is the recipient of a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) Grant evaluating our primary prevention work with a focus on health equity. This is a brand new funding opportunity for sexual assault coalitions across the country. This position will support MCASA’s Program team in assessing our capacity for primary prevention efforts. The Coordinator will also be an important part of our community outreach and education work.
The Coordinator will connect with Rape Crisis and Recovery Centers, as well as community and culturally specific organizations to build relationships and collect information on primary prevention successes and challenges in Maryland. The coordinator will hold the information received from stakeholders in strict confidence and will exercise a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others. The Coordinator will assist with logistical coordination of the project which will include conducting outreach to community partners, scheduling meetings, developing agendas, and compiling results and recommendations for next steps. This position will assist in organizing the Prevention Advisory Board meetings, gathering and analyzing data, disseminating information to those associated with the project, contributing to the discussion and formation of recommendations, and other duties related to aspects of this project.
In addition to assisting with the capacity for primary prevention efforts, the Coordinator will organize and help create a dynamic statewide media campaign to promote the awareness of sexual assault resources in the state of Maryland. This is a full-time position funded from October 2023 through June 2024.
Employees are expected to be available to travel to the MCASA office in Silver Spring within 90 minutes or live within the State of Maryland. While many job duties may be performed virtually, some are in person. This may include on-site meetings, meetings with stakeholders or community members, training workshops, or other in person events. Employees may choose to work in the MCASA offices subject to COVID risk reduction protocols.
Classification: Non-Exempt
Salary: $47,500.00 - $49,500.00
Responsibilities and Duties
The Prevention and Media Coordinator will assist the Prevention and Education Specialist with executing the grant deliverables of the Rape Prevention and Education Primary Prevention Capacity Assessment project, community outreach and education efforts, and work with MCASA’s Communications Coordinator to facilitate a statewide media campaign.
This will include:
• Conducting outreach and coordinating meetings with various stakeholders.
• Scheduling virtual and in-person meetings, developing agendas, and taking meeting notes.
• Gathering, synthesizing, and sharing data with stakeholders.
• Create meaningful content and curriculum that support prevention efforts throughout the state, including prevention training and educational efforts specifically and intentionally designed to prevent sexual violence targeted towards underserved populations.
• Providing information to Rape Crisis and Recovery Center staff and other sexual assault service providers about opportunities for prevention and outreach programming.
• Assisting in the development of recommendations for future prevention activities.
• Working with MCASA’s Communications Coordinator to develop website and webpages, factsheets, outreach materials, brochures, and social media posts.
• Supporting Rape Crisis and Recovery Center programs’ primary prevention efforts.
• Interfacing with outside stakeholders, including staff from Rape Crisis and Recovery Centers, the Maryland Department of Health, and outside consultants.
• Coordinating the design and implementation of a statewide media campaign, including detail oriented logistical work.
• Attending community events across Maryland to share MCASA resources and connect with interested organizations and individuals.
General Responsibilities:
• Supporting effective agency communications including, including listservs, social media, e-newsletter, conference calls, etc.
• Participating in pre-and post-training activities, including preparatory meetings and training debriefs, evaluation development, data entry and analysis of formal evaluation forms, and follow-up surveys.
• Ensuring compliance with grant objectives, goals, collection of data, and reporting requirements.
• Preparing grant reports and assisting with development of grant applications.
• Prioritizing and fulfilling responsibilities in accordance with available funding and grant requirements.
• Such other duties as assigned by Executive Director & Counsel.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Women’s Studies, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or related field. Applicants with a High School Diploma and relevant experience will be considered.
• Knowledge or previous work experience to include one or more of the following: writing, professional training, community outreach.
• Strong oral and written communication, organizational, problem solving and planning skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel), Canva or MailChimp preferred; able to learn and use new technology, such as online databases and communication systems.
• Social media, general media, or marketing and communications experience an asset.
• Performing arts or debate experience preferred.
• Ability to use and communicate professionally and effectively through e-mail and social media. This includes basic design awareness.
• Commitment to ending sexual violence.
• Access to a car and valid driver’s license; this position requires travel within Maryland.
