The CUNY SPS Office of Institutional Research collects, manages and organizes data to support the analytic, reporting and decision-making needs of the college. Office activities include data analytics, designing and building visualizations and interactive dashboards, administering and analyzing institutional surveys, and establishing institutional data governance policies and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research, the Research Assistant/College Assistant will:

  • Assist in survey administration, analysis and reporting (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Compile and analyze quantitative data in numeric tables, charts, and graphs
  • Support creation and updates to data visualizations for dashboards and static graphic reports
  • Assist with data governance practices and initiatives
  • Perform some administrative work (e.g., assist with materials for presentations, meetings, training workshops)
  • Other research and/or administrative duties, as assigned

Preferred Minimum Qualification:

  • High school diploma/GED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, certificate or college-level coursework from an accredited college or university in a related major/discipline (e.g., data analytics, data science, computer science, information science, etc.) focused on performing data analysis using computer software applications
  • Experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple assignments simultaneously, and be flexible in an environment with changing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Some experience in coding (SQL, R), dashboard software (Tableau, Power BI), analysis software (SPSS), and/or survey software (Qualtrics) is a plus
