Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

The jobholder will join the embassy’s high performing Communications Team and help implement a high-impact communications strategy, in particular monitoring and reporting on current affairs in the US, UK and elsewhere and through designing and posting materials for social media. The Communications Assistant will play an important role in the delivery of projects, events, and visit programmes, including developing social media plans, completing administrative tasks and working with programme budgets.

Roles and responsibilities:

•Identifying and synthesizing, news reporting, commentary, and analysis pieces that are important to the ambassador, the Embassy, and the UK. (30%

•Lead on forward planning Embassy’s communications efforts and develop weekly themes for the Embassy’s communications efforts by building and maintaining the team’s planning grids. (20%)

•Supporting the Embassy’s digital media strategy including producing social media content, updating the website and supporting the Head of Digital in running the embassy’s central social media channels. (20%)

•Supporting visits from UK ministers and government officials by handling press, producing social media content and photographing public engagements. (5%)

•Responding to public enquiries on a timely basis. (10%)

•Providing project support and administration duties within the department, including on the Marshall Scholarship programme and UK official visitors. (10%)

•Train, manage and support interns (5%)

Essential qualifications and experience

2-3 years of relevant work or internship experience.

Experience developing social media campaigns and developing content for digital media.

Organisational, communication and computer skills.

Enthusiastic and creative self-starter able to work independently or as part of a team.

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with staff at all levels of the organisation with a professional and courteous attitude.

Desirable qualifications and experience

Strong design and photograph skills a plus.

Strong interest in current events, politics, international relations, and media industry.

Ability to work under pressure of tight deadlines, while remaining focused and flexible.
