The NIKE Global Government & Public Affairs (GPA) team is a global team with responsibility for developing and implementing NIKE’s government affairs strategies and initiatives in priority countries around the world. Trade, sustainable manufacturing, privacy, retail/employment, tax, and promoting physical activity and sport are among the top policy priorities for the GPA team. We work primarily on cross functional teams and seek to influence action by governments, elected officials, and public agencies.

As a Director of Reporting and Operations for the NIKE Government & Public Affairs (GPA) team, you will be based at our World Headquarters near Beaverton, OR. You will work report to the Sr. Director of Global Government & Public Affairs for Operations, World Headquarters & Public Engagement and work closely with the WHQ-based GPA team to create global strategic communications for both external and internal use, lead priority projects, and support the global team’s operations.

You will be charged with developing an annual calendar to support the work of the global GPA leadership team and then developing and designing communications in a variety of formats that influence external stakeholders and support our team’s advocacy efforts. You will also maintain regular and strategic internal reporting and communications as well as drive and lead priority projects, such as economic impact reports and briefing materials for government officials, to support GPA globally and in the geographies.

This role is a perfect fit for those with a public policy communications background and public sector experience, especially if you worked for a government body, agency or elected representative. We also seek candidates who have government or public affairs private sector experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to synthesize complex ideas, campaigns and initiatives and have a track record of flawless execution. Strong planning and written and oral communication skills are an absolute must for this role. This position a team player who is open and willing to tackle, drive and lead new and evolving challenges with a positive attitude.

Key Focus Areas:

Design and develop key communications/strategy materials (such as weekly GPA internal reports and monthly newsletters, briefing documents, internal NIKE communication tools, presentation design, issue briefs, etc.) for the Government & Public Affairs team

Partner with internal/external design partners and internal function stakeholders to develop assets and content for NIKE GPA to use internally and externally (e.g. logos, imagery, presentations)

Develop an annual communications calendar

Prepare briefing materials for internal stakeholders to support government delegations and elected leaders visiting WHQ and global facilities

Working with GPA teammates, provide regular communications alerts to key business and legal stakeholders on regulatory and legislative activity so they can adapt their infrastructure and planning needs

Prepare presentations and materials for GPA leadership to use with internal and external audiences

Create, produce, and distribute advocacy materials and collateral to support GPA initiatives and events, including country footprints and public policy advocacy materials

Provide collateral materials, talking points, event materials for GPA team engagement in priority business and public events and conferences

Create and maintain external stakeholder distribution lists for the WHQ team

Define, implement, and lead a unified communications strategy internally that engages, informs and inspires our internal team, partners and candidates about GPA's mission, strategy, technology, etc.

WHAT YOU BRING TO NIKE

Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, public relations, communications, political science, business, or related field required

At least 7-10 years’ work experience in a public, political or legislative setting

5-7 years’ experience in a communications role supporting globally branded organizations; corporate experience a bonus

Demonstrated experience and understanding of legislative and public policy processes; experience leading a legislative portfolio a bonus

Foundational level of subject matter understanding in policy areas including sustainability, privacy and security, labor, trade, taxation and a demonstrated high level of ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders in these and other subject areas

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate internally and externally to influence policy initiatives in different branches of government

Demonstrated track record of planning for, building, and executing a suite of communications tools, templates, and materials

Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to unanticipated business needs and work as a team player

Capacity to synthesize large amounts of complex information into straightforward, concise reports

Experience building presentations required

Experience planning, developing, and designing communications across multiple platforms, including print, digital, audio, video, mobile and social media

Ability to move at a fast pace with multiple projects in flight at once and can change course and still deliver

Ability to build and cultivate key relationships internally and work collaboratively and drive consensus in a cross-functional, cross-geographical and cross-category matrix organizational structure

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Keynote/PowerPoint and Excel skills and Word Press skills required

Ability to work in a dynamic, results-oriented environment
