Representative Jason Crow (CO-06) seeks a Communications Director to manage all strategic communication activities, including national and local media outreach and long-term strategy. Qualified candidates will have a strong understanding of the media landscape, ability to think creatively about press opportunities, experience managing a team and maintaining strategic relationships, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, proactive office. This senior staff position supervises the office’s communication staff and reports to the Chief of Staff and Congressman. JOB FUNCTIONS · Acts as the formal spokesperson and media liaison for the Member; · Develops and implements media, communications, and public relations strategy for the Member; · Drafts press releases, op-eds, talking points, press advisories and any other written material; · Reviews public schedule and any other public facing written material; · Remains abreast of current legislative and non-legislative issues about which the Member may be questioned; · Evaluates current events and media reports in the district and the nation for their impact on the Member; · Coordinates scheduling of press, interviews, radio and television time with Scheduler; · Writes speeches for the Member; · Maintains a good working relationship with the Member, staff, and constituents; · Works well under pressure and handles stress; · Accepts performance-based criticism and direction; · Works a flexible schedule including long hours, nights and weekends; and · Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: * Enthusiasm about Congressman Crow’s work and priorities; * Thorough knowledge of communications strategy and work, including pitching stories and franked communications; * 3+ years prior comms experience; * Previous management experience preferred; * Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others; * Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant and professional manner; * Strong writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills are a must; * Ability to self-motivate, problem-solve and think creatively; * Colorado ties are a plus THIS OFFICE IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER: Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
