Policy Analyst
Established in 1970, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press (Reporters Committee) provides pro bono legal representation, amicus curiae support, and other legal resources to protect First Amendment freedoms and the newsgathering rights of journalists. Reporters Committee serves news organizations, reporters, documentary filmmakers, media lawyers, and many more who use its online resources.
The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press is looking for a talented Policy Analyst for a temporary position through February of 2025. This position is entry-level and is ideal for a recent college graduate. The policy analyst will primarily support the Reporters Committee’s outreach to newsrooms and police departments in connection with the protection of journalists covering mass protest activity. The position will report to the Director of the Technology and Press Freedom Project.
Key Responsibilities
● Assist in nationwide outreach to newsrooms and police departments to share best practices on police-press interactions at protests;
● Develop and maintain list of contacts at newsrooms and police departments;
● Manage logistics of virtual and in-person trainings and meetings;
● Developing and producing trainings materials for newsrooms and police departments;
● Other projects as needed.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communications, or a related field.
● Knowledge of and interest in press freedom advocacy.
● Strong organizational and administrative skills.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range, based on experience, is $59,000-$69,000 for a candidate based in Washington, D.C. Our generous benefit package should also be considered. For all regular full-time positions, the Reporters Committee offers:
· A competitive base salary with 2 weeks paid time off, 4 annual floating days, and all Federal holidays;
· A retirement savings plan, including a 5% employer contribution after 3 months of employment;
· Comprehensive employer paid insurance coverage, including medical, dental, vision, life and accidental death, and disability;
· Ability to use pre-tax dollars for dependent care, medical and commuting expenses.
