POSITION SUMMARY

Reports to: Membership Manager, DEI Business Fellowship Program Manager

Are you our next apprentice? Here's what you will do:

1. You will receive training in these areas:

  • Overview of the DDC departments, their work, and how this fits together to help support local businesses.
  • Member benefits and resources available for partners.
  • Member/Partner in Simpleview CRM via Brainery certification.

2. Support the DEI Business Fellowship Program.

  • Collect data about how the cohort has participated in and benefited from membership. This includes service requests, referrals, GA4, and event attendance.
  • Use Canva to create a comprehensive report with data visualization, including ROI reports and communication images.
  • Log results into the SimpleView CRM, update relevant member records and track communications.

3. Develop and Distribute Fellowship Survey

  • Revise existing survey form and questions to address need areas.
  • Distribute survey to 2025 cohort and collect responses.
  • Synthesize data and present performance to P&A team.

4. Recruit and Prospect Business Fellows for the 2026 Cohort.

  • Research appropriate businesses for outreach.
  • Shadow prospect calls and door-knocking with the account managers.
  • Organize outreach to community organizations to promote the 2026 cohort of business fellows.

5. Support DDC's overall sustainability efforts.

  • Prospect and onboard existing members to a sustainability recognition program
  • Contribute to other short-term projects as needed

6. Attend regular company-wide and departmental meetings and general department duties as needed.

Duration and Schedule:

  • Fall 2025, August 4, 2025 - February 5, 2026
  • 28 hours/week; 4 days/week in-person, Monday - Thursday, OFF Fridays.
  • 20 hours/week DEI program support (equivalent to 3 days)

What You Bring: Knowledge, Experience, Competencies

  • Early career professional preferred. Graduate student or advanced college student considered.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; presenter, networking engagement opportunities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology; Canva required.
  • Exceptional customer service and business etiquette skills.
  • Good organizational skills, research skills, and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated interest in the travel and tourism economy, enthusiasm for Washington, DC.
  • Eagerness to learn from a team of dynamic, engaged professionals working to promote Washington, DC and its vital hospitality and travel and tourism economy.

Work Environment

This Apprentice is expected in the office 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday). Apprentice will follow Destination DC's policies for staff and may work hybrid when needed. Apprentice must have reliable internet to work remotely. If the Apprentice does not have a computer, a Destination DC computer will be issued for the duration of the apprenticeship.

About the DEI Business Fellowship The DEI Business Fellowship was launched in the Fall of 2021 as a purposeful effort to highlight and engage small businesses owned and operated by historically underrepresented groups. The cohort of select businesses receives a free year of DDC membership and sales and marketing support. Through mentorship, complimentary marketing, education, and networking opportunities, DDC strives to sustain and grow these businesses to help them reach business and leisure travelers.
