We are a bipartisan law and lobbying multi-client firm seeking candidates to join our legislative team. 

As the Senior Manager of Policy and Research, you will be the point person for principals’ research needs and special projects; and will manage our team of legislative assistants. In this role, you will proactively track issues, legislation, industry trends, and current events that affect clients and prospective clients and will conduct extensive, in-depth, and time-sensitive research. You will produce written content, including policy analyses and summaries on legislative, regulatory, and political developments as requested by principals.

This position will provide substantial experience in all aspects of a multi-client lobbying firm. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor legislative developments in areas critical to W&J practice areas.
  • Prepare daily / regular updates on key legislative trends and changes.
  • Create and maintain issue alert system that identify matters of interest to principals as well as existing and potential clients.
  • Maintain current awareness of federal congressional schedules and activities.
  • Undertake complex legislative and regulatory history research assignments requiring the use of various specialized sources and prepare summaries.
  • Participate in general research coverage, handling regulatory and non-legal research questions.
  • Ensure quality of materials produced by the legislative team.
  • Oversee legislative staff in terms of delegating work, managing weekly schedules, and ensuring coverage of congressional activities as requested by principals, which may include evenings and weekends.

Successful candidates will have:

  • At least 3 years of work experience in public policy or politics.
  • Strong understanding of the policy making process and a working knowledge of relevant federal and legislative databases and sources.
  • Broad and thorough knowledge of legal, business, and financial information sources.
  • Capable of working independently, with minimal supervision and equally well as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills, including strong relationship-building skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively on nuanced policy issues.
  • Outstanding written communication skills, including the ability to produce written products that explain complex concepts in a succinct and direct manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, multi-task, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to adjust hours as necessary to meet operating and business needs.
  • An interest in public policy or politics.

Note this is a full-time, in-person position with flexibility to remote work on occasion.
