The HUSKY 4 Immigrants Coalition is a coalition of immigrants rights organizers, health care advocacy organizers, community leaders, healthcare providers, faith leaders and unions fighting for access to healthcare and health coverage for Connecticut's (CT) immigrant population. The HUSKY for Immigrants Campaign took off in 2019 and since then we’ve been a vibrant coalition that has made our communities voices’ heard around the state! For 2 consecutive years, we’ve had wins at the state legislature - winning HUSKY health access for undocumented kids under 9 and undocumented pregnant people in 2021, and expanding access to undocumented kids under 12 in 2022. 

Coalition members include: CT Students for a Dream; Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut; The Semilla Collective; Make the Road CT (MRCT), Hartford Deportation Defense, CT Citizens Action Group; CT Working Families Party; Planned Parenthood Votes! CT, Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF), CT Worker Center, United Action CT, Health Equity Solutions, Neighbor Fund, Uniting for a Safe Inclusive Community - Manchester (USIC).

 

Position Description: 

The HUSKY 4 Immigrants Coalition is seeking a Coalition Manager to lead the “HUSKY 4 Immigrants” campaign work to expand access to healthcare and the HUSKY Medicaid Program to immigrant communities in CT. They will be responsible for coordinating the HUSKY 4 Immigrants Coalition and working with organizational partners, managing and coordinating events and outreach efforts, and engaging in grassroots community organizing of the broader public and the immigrant community in order to push forward the HUSKY 4 Immigrants campaign. 


Position Hours and Location:

The Coalition Manager position will be supervised by the Coalition Steering Committee and employed under CT Students for a Dream (C4D). This is a remote salaried role with an average work week of 40 hrs a week. This position will have key responsibilities and activities in person in Hartford, CT, as well as other Connecticut cities as needed.


Responsibilities:

  • Coalition Coordination & Management 
  • Manage the overall coordination of the HUSKY 4 Immigrants Coalition, this includes scheduling and facilitating coalition meetings, creating coalition meeting agendas, and holding coalition partners accountable to collective work. 
  • Build relationships with and manage the engagement of coalition members (approximately 20 different organizations) this includes engagement of coalition members in the campaign work, checking in and supporting organizational members, and outreach and recruitment of new organizational members.
  • Engage and build relationships with external stakeholders to move forward campaign goals, including legislators, Department of Social Services (DSS), the Governor's office, etc.
  • Coordinate the steering committee of the coalition to accomplish its work leading the coalition and campaign strategy: this includes facilitating weekly meetings, creation of agendas, engagement on strategy creation, and holding members accountable.
  • Support coalition working committees’ work by checking in with the chairs regularly, guiding on strategy, and providing support as needed.
  • Campaign Strategy Management 
  • Provide guidance and direction on campaign strategy for the coalition with the support of the steering committee members: this can include drafting strategy memos, planning and facilitating campaign strategy making process (timelines, tactics, structure), and guiding advocacy/legislative strategy 
  • Communications
  • Supports social media communications for the coalition and campaign on events, and news.
  • Send email communications to the coalition members and supporter lists 
  • Speak at events and with the media to raise awareness of the campaign to different audiences. 
  • Coordinate and support key coalition and campaign events and projects together with coalition members and committees, including:
  • Volunteer team coordination for events and projects of coalition; 
  • Public Hearing mobilization, training, and turnout; 
  • Action and Advocacy Days coordination, recruitment, and mobilization;  
  • Create space for debrief and celebration of collective work; 
  • Keep organized documents and materials that are created and used throughout the campaign. 


Desired Skills/Abilities 

  • Ability to work in a collaborative leadership approach 
  • An enthusiasm for open communication and building relationships
  • Strong commitment to social justice and dismantling systems of oppression. 
  • Strong commitment to the immigrant community/immigrants’ rights
  • Previous experience with coalition building and management preferred 
  • Previous experience planning and facilitating meetings or events 
  • Previous experience with state legislative advocacy preferred 
  • Must be a self­-starter with strong interpersonal, organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Fluency in Google Docs 
  • Bicultural, ­Bilingual English/Spanish/Portuguese/Creole a plus
  • Reliable transportation needed
