We are seeking a Director of Secondary/Postsecondary Transitions (Principal Executive/Manager F) in our Office of Teaching, Learning & Assessment (OTLA). This position is a member of our management team.
What you will do!
As the Director of Secondary/Postsecondary Transitions, you perform and assist with specific duties related to Secondary and Post-Secondary Transitions, to include programs that support student learning from grade 5 to career/post-secondary outcomes, including but not limited to Career and Technical Education (CTE) and coordination with STEM/STEAM education. These duties include biennial budget development administering general, other, and federal funds; direction of program and fund administration; comprehensive state planning; office work; internal plan development; determination of related staffing needs; administration of federal and state grants; evaluation of staff and programs; and liaison with other state and federal agencies.
What are we looking for?
A seasoned manager with at least four years of management experience in a public or private organization which included responsibility for each of the following: a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation; OR three years of management experience in a public or private organization which included responsibility for each of the following: a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and
d) budget preparation; AND 45-48 quarter hours (30-32 semester hours) of graduate level coursework in management. skilled candidate with at least a Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or Education; and two years of experience coordinating or administering a program; OR any combination of experience or education equivalent to five years of experience in education or program administration.
Additionally, we are looking for candidates with:
- Demonstrated commitment to system change that accelerates opportunities by removing barriers for students in our K-14 system who are and have been historically underserved.
- Leadership experience in an education setting, preferably a school district, education service district or state education agency and evidence of awareness of national and worldwide education research is preferred.
- Understanding of instructional best practice and demonstrated success with equitably improving learning outcomes for students in K-14.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and oral and written communications skills.
- Strong expertise around K-12 instructional best practices, with deep understanding around Career Technical Education, Educational Equity, and Educational Technology.
- Ability to provide an inclusive workplace that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork, and supports constructive resolution of conflicts. Highly effective and well-developed interpersonal skills and self-awareness. The ability to manage situations and tailor approach to the individual's skills, needs and performance. Demonstrated ability to see the importance of role modeling. The ability to coach and co-create shared vision.
- Ability to collaborate across multiple systems (i.e. national, state, local, school districts, SEA’s, etc.) and work together to streamline services across multiple communities and programs. Ability to solicit and value diverse viewpoints.
- Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic organizational goals, plans and policies. Experience analyzing complex and sensitive issues and situations, identifying alternative solutions, and forecasting consequences of proposed actions and implementing recommendations in support of strategic organizational goals, plans and policies.
- Budget planning and preparation including forecasting and establishing budget projections associated with revenue streams. Strong knowledge of the principles and process of budgeting and financial management as it relates to operational management and program delivery.
- Preference may be given to candidates with a Master’s Degree or higher in education, administration, leadership or a closely related field.
- Preference may be given to candidates with bilingual skills.

*Employees who are Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay a 6% employee contribution to PERS; the salary range noted above reflects base salary only.
