Job Description

The Senior U.S. Policy Advisor is a key member of WCS’s Federal Affairs team in Washington, D.C. This role coordinates and conducts policy research and analysis to advance WCS’s U.S. government policy and funding priorities. This position is based in the Federal Affairs Program which is part of the Government & Community Affairs Department which is responsible for protecting and growing New York City, New York State, and U.S. Government funding streams that provide over $100 million in annual WCS operating, programmatic and capital support. To advance its goals, this position works closely with the Department’s federal lobbyists, coordinates the research agenda and collaborates with experts within Global Conservation and WCS’s Zoos & the New York Aquarium. Excellent analytical and writing skills, understanding of legislative and regulatory processes, and an ability to work with interdisciplinary teams while managing multiple projects and deadlines are critical to this role.

Qualification Requirements

  • 5-7 years of government policy research and analysis, preferably in natural resource policy, Capitol Hill experience preferred
  • Graduate degree in law, public policy, economics, biology or related environmental fields required
  • Familiarity with federal legislative and rulemaking processes preferred.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Superior research, writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple, shifting deadlines while working as a team player
  • Project management skills and great attention to detail
  • Experience with Salesforce, Asana and policy tracking platforms a bonus

Salary Range

$60.00
