The Senior Public Policy Manager, Economic Policy & Regulation, will join a growing and dynamic team that works in support of AWS cloud computing business. Like our business interests, our policy issues are broad, topical, forward-thinking, and driven by what is best for our customers. This Washington, DC-based role will work with a wide range of federal and state policymakers, industry organizations and academia across numerous regulatory and policy issues, spanning Information Technology policy, enterprise and public sector environments.

As the Senior Public Policy Manager, Economic Policy and Regulation, you will be responsible for engaging and partnering with policymakers, regulators, academia and other non-governmental groups in Washington, DC and nationwide. You will lead external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, partnerships, and initiatives in support of these objectives. You must be able to manage and drive complex projects, and provide clear and confident guidance, including in situations of high ambiguity. You will need to demonstrate an astute understanding of the public policy and regulatory environment for economic policy and regulation. You will coordinate AWS engagement with relevant industry associations and wider coalitions, as well as think tanks and other organizations that shape policies; and manage consultancy support.

Internally, you will interact with AWS business and AWS corporate functions, locally and globally, to develop and implement positioning and engagement strategies. This will be a highly visible position that will create, execute, and manage responses to key public policy issues. Ownership of work is extremely important, and candidates should have a proven record of leading projects to completion and building relationships to drive consensus across multiple stakeholders. The ability to self-direct and prioritize effectively to manage multiple simultaneous, constantly evolving programs is a must.

The position is based in Washington, DC.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree required; JD preferred.

· A minimum of 10 years of experience with the legislative and regulatory policy process and the technology industry.

· A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with a keen working understanding of public policy, including the mechanics of legislative and administrative policymaking process and procedures, effective lobbying techniques, and collaboration with other companies and trade groups. Candidates will be able to demonstrate their experience through work within government, companies, consultancies (public policy or communications), trade associations, or equivalent organizations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Previous public policy experience.

· Familiarity with program management tools, techniques and software, including strong skills of breaking down tasks, simplifying roadmaps, establishing owners and timelines, and status reporting.

· Understand strategic initiatives and drive them to a successful conclusion.

· Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and evaluate outcomes.

· Experience managing varied stakeholders and the ability move forward in the face of ambiguity and imperfect knowledge.

· Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others – with strong interpersonal skills, judgement, and political acumen.

· Evaluate and measure the effectiveness of activities in relation to business goals on an ongoing basis.
