Organization: Faith in Action East Bay (FIAEB) is a broad-based organization of congregations, schools, and allied organizations, representing over 25,000 families across the East Bay, committed to building a powerful multi-faith, multi-racial, intergenerational, and prophetic force for racial and economic justice in the East Bay. Since 1977, Faith in Action East Bay (formerly Oakland Community Organizations) has collaborated with other allied organizations in serving residents of the East Bay – primarily people of color and low-income persons – to address a wide range of issues. FIAEB is a coalition of progressive faith-based community action organizations whose primary mission is to equip leaders with the tools to bring about economic self-sufficiency, health and safety, civic engagement, connectivity, and commitment to lifelong learning within their communities.
Position Summary: FIAEB is seeking an experienced organizer to work with congregations, schools and communities in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties and provide training for clergy, organizers, and lay leaders. The organizer will help lead power-building and strategic campaigns across the region.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Leadership development which includes but not limited to clergy, lay community members at congregations, schools, and other institutions.
- Organizer development: recruit, train and supervise local leaders to organize powerful local campaigns.
- Develop relationships with congregations and issue tables, and support their organizing efforts.
- Actively participate in 1-1’s as specified in our organizing model.
- Leadership development: participate in the building of a powerful leadership training program that will engage community leaders in building a shared analysis and vision while building an agenda for racial and economic justice in the region.
- Campaign development: provide guidance to leaders on key fights for racial and economic justice in the region; center the work with strategies to build multi-faith relationships across race, gender, language and to create an anti-blackness culture across the region.
- Visit with assigned congregations, schools, allies, and funders in pursuit of FIAEB campaign goals.
- Support our Theory of Change and the integration of multiple campaigns across the organization.
- Attend regular staff meetings, staff development meetings, and other sessions related to staff work (virtual and in-person).
- Track your work using assigned databases, electronic reporting, and other tools.
- Develop a quarterly work plan, produce and submit a weekly report.
- Assist in fund development efforts as requested, including providing narrative and quantitative information to those preparing new grants and reporting on existing grants.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in community organizing and developing leaders.
- Commitment to equity, social and economic justice, and bottom-up change.
- Strong relational skills and ability to connect, engage and inspire community members across religion, race, gender, age, language, and class.
- Capacity to think strategically and analytically about social, economic, cultural, moral, and political issues impacting communities in the region.
- Desire to learn and openness to challenge and accountability.
- Ability to guide, direct and support leaders to advocate for equity and inclusion, and work independently; ability to set boundaries to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Experience and capacity to work in strategic partnerships and build strong alliances.
- Commitment to build power among grassroots leaders and with faith communities. experience in building collective decision-making structures.
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.
Compensation & Benefits:
- This is a full-time position and includes benefits as defined in the organization’s Employment Handbook (medical, dental, pension, annual Wellness benefit, sabbatical program, sick leave, generous personal time-off policies).
- Compensation (estimated $65,000+) is commensurate with experience.
