What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $57,000 - $63,000 annually. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:
  • A guaranteed life-long monthly pension, once vested after 5 years of service

  • 140 hours of PTO earned within first year + 11 paid holidays, 1 personal holiday and 1 volunteer day per year

Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work on site at the City and County Building five days per week, with an option for hybrid work later. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
What You'll Do
The Office of Council member Flor Alvidrez is seeking a City Council Aide to support the constituent, policy, and community impact work across Council District 7. The desired candidate should be capable of maintaining a positive attitude in a high pressure, confidentiality-sensitive and fast-paced, politically charged environment.
This is an at-will position. Please note this position requires regular work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends.
Specifically, as the Senior Council Aide you will:
Administrative Activities
  • Calendar management
  • Complete and maintain budget documents, forms, and other paperwork
  • Take detailed meeting notes and follow-up
  • Liaison with City departments
Constituent Services and Community Engagement
  • Answer constituent calls and emails
  • Interface with city agencies and others to resolve issues
  • Attend meetings of Registered Neighborhood Organization and other city-related groups
  • Attend external meetings, public meetings, and project team meetings with the Councilmember
  • Work directly and develop relationships with the community
Marketing & Communications
  • Assist with social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter)
  • TV/News/Radio/Print Media engagement (including press releases)
  • Maintain website
  • Assist in distribution or delivery of marketing/informational materials
  • Write competently in a variety of styles to communicate agendas, briefs, summaries for notifications and a variety of events/meetings
Policy/Legislative Research
  • Identify issues and solutions particularly in advocating for district programs, policy, and legislation
  • Track legislation
  • Draft formal and official language on behalf of the office
  • Work with racially, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse populations
About You
What You'll Bring
Our ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal communications skills, exceptional attention to detail, and be a self-starter with a high work ethic. The ideal candidate is either familiar with or has a desire to learn how to navigate municipal government departments and agencies while remaining well-informed of current council and community activity. This position requires a solid rapport with the district team, and developing familiarity with district constituents, community members, and area stakeholders.
Our ideal candidate will be comfortable:
  • Working directly and developing relationships with the community
  • Identifying issues and solutions particularly in advocating for the westside in city programs, policy, and legislation
  • Drafting formal and official language on behalf of the office
  • Working with racially, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse populations
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing office administration and communications work in the public sector
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
